I happened to have bought a rabbit last night
It's a 9 week old female in black
Any advice for keeping them like litter training etc?
Took her out for a walk in the garden today on her lead, was pretty funny. I'll put some pictures up later. |

I have 2 pet rabbits and I can only say when it comes to toilet training, like people, some learn quicker than others.
One is super clean and even running around the house, if he needs to do a peepee or doodee..he'll run back in his cage into the potty
The girl however is a dirty cow and will piss and poop EVERYWHERE....
we taught them both the technique: when they have peed on the bedding, just pick it up and put it in the potty so like a dog, they'll recognise the smell and learn to pee/poop in there. It takes a while for them to understand...but worth it in the end.

Rabbits belong in a large fenced outdoor run with a warm safe hutch.
All this 'leads' and 'toilet training' lark is frankly, bizarre. You ever smelt rabbit piss? ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

I used to keep rabbits, but never put a lead on one. Why bother with the lead? Just make sure it has a secure bit of garden to run around & it won't need a lead.
As Yun says, they are fairly easy to train, we had a British Giant rabbit, used to fight with the dog to lie infront of the fire ____________________ Enjoy everyday, tell those you love everyday you love them

Yun is right with regards to toilet training, pick up their droppings/piss and put it in the litter box (piss thats on hay obviously). When you clean out the litter box save a bit of used litter and rub it into the fresh litter so the scent is still there.
Our rabbit likes to poo everywhere so he can mark his territory, he used to like pissing in certain corners to mark them too but he seems to have stopped that. You might want to get your rabbit spayed as she may possibly start to become very territorial. Our male rabbit used to wait till you'd open the hutch door then piss all over you (I have a picture of me somewhere where my white t-shirt was covered in yellow rabbit piss) so he could "mark" you. He'd also constantly try to hump you, if you left you bare arm anywhere he'd immediately jump on it. Once we got him neutered he's only tried it once, and was possibly even friendlier (we was very friendly to start with anyway).
If you're going to get her a run get some chicken wire - we had a square (1m x 1m) run but it wasn't particularly big. just make sure she can't just over/dig under the wire .
We found that moving ours inside made it a much happier rabbit, being in contact with us all the time and being able to run round the kitchen for ages, but being outside is fine too.
You may find that your female rabbit likes to dig alot, and they normally 'chin' things quite often (scent marking).
This is a good website for all things rabbit.
Have fun, rabbits are ace |

We seem to have aquired a rabbit. Quite honestly it's a pain in the arse but as my better halfs sister is up the duff and turned into a bunny boiler it was safer to bring it here for a "short while". That was the beginning of December.
It doesn't go out but just hopps around and flops over likes it's been hit by a car. If they're kept indoors you have to trim their claws quite regularly. Get some proper clippers from a pet shop and don't cut them to low or you may have some rabbit teeth marks in your hand. https://www.omlet.co.uk/guide/guide.php?view=Rabbits&cat=Rabbit%20Care&sub=Nails
Rabbits with no rabbit buddies need lots of attention. They also play with toys like little puppies. Cardboard tubes and pop bottles and stuff is OK.
Don't let it in a room with any cables. Many of mine have been tasted and it seems to like my extremely expensive speaker cable, which I'm not to happy about. If it trys a live one though it will be its last.
One thing it really likes is its cheeks rubbed. It almost falls asleep when your doing it, and you can walk away and it just lies there dead still with it's eyes shut until it realises you've gone.
Everytime you come in it runs over and just hops around your feet. I think it means it's in love with my feet. It's a bit thick.
In the morning it has a mad 5 mins when it pegs around the place full pelt. It was particularly funny running towards the door when it couldn't stop and bashed into it. 2 seconds later it was off again
Have a look on the net to see which fresh food you can give it. You'll be surprised in what they don't eat. Fresh water everyday. Oh, and brush it as well. Like cats they keep themselves very clean but unlike cats they can't cough up fur so it blocks their insides. Nice.
Anyway there's loads on the net. Happy shit scouping.
p.s. take your girl for a McDonalds or something. |
