I work for the NHS, and its shite.

Bosses are tosspots, work is boring, but at least its pretty easy, and its not difficult to sneak off and have a spliff or two.

Would certainly change it if I could, personally I'd love to go back into doing the DJ thing.

I hate my job and recently everythings got even worse there and I'm being "pushed" into quitting.

No idea what I want to do though so still there till either they make up a reason to sack me, or I quit!

Some days there is great, other days I feel like quitting there and then, but just have to think about why we work and if we quit without something else lined up = no bike.

I work in a video games shop which is fun, the job would be the best ever if a) you got paid more and b) customers wouldn't keep coming in and stopping me from playing Razz
Seriously though, the job is great fun although I don't get to play games allthe time like people think I do. I would like to earn more money which means I am going to have to change jobs sooner or later (M wants it to be sooner). Any job starts out exciting while you are learning new skills and finding your way into something but after time I believe any job can become boring/tedious (having to get up everyday to do the same thing you did yesterday and the same thing you will do tomorrow).
Previous jobs I have been in I have endured simply because I needed the money going through day by day thinking about how much money I have earned by being there.

I work for a record/music management company running websites for bands and stuff like that.

Been there four years so the deep excitement has somewhat worn off, but it's still a decent enough job and I like the people I work with so it's pretty good.

I'd like to change someday to something that doesn't involve sitting in front of a computer all day, but I haven't quite worked out what yet.

By day, techy web person for Dennis Publishing, the job itself is pretty cool althrough the workload varies wildly from absolutely fuck all on to a million things at once. What kills it for me is the commuting. Bleh Neutral

By night, erm, amateur pornographer. Never ever boring but incredibly hard work for comparatively little money. The American recession as well as the exchange rate is making things a pain in the arse at the moment, but it's still my preferred job of the two. Got a lot of non-porn stuff on as well, and the freedom is great - think something up, put it together, stand back and watch it either make money or fail spectacularly. Fun fun fun Very Happy

A while back I ran a small startup business for a little over two years, now that was a great laugh. We survived the dot com upfuck and sold the company for a small profit, neatly ducking out just as the online ad market completely collapsed. Good memories there, I want to do it again!

Hi

I am a programmer for npower, working on customer registration systems. That entails programming in PL/1 with Oracle or DB2, along with some VB and some time using a product called Opal (Opal programming, made to make your eyes water).

Basically the programming work is OK, but there is getting to be more and more crap paperwork with the job which is starting to seriously p**s me off.

I would move elsewhere if the computer industry was not so screwed up at the moment. I also get tempted to just get out of the computer industry anyway.

All the best

Keith

Weekdays I am at 6th form, studying for A2's in Physics, Maths and Computing - workload is high, and I'm not paid Wink

Weekends I am a 'Frozen Foods Warehouse Assistant' which entails spending 8 hours at a time in -23C freezers sorting out other peoples mess. This is obviously not a career choice, it's a weekend job to get me money. I don't particuarly enjoy the work, but I don't hate it.

For a career I am applying to the Royal Navy as an Officer, got an interview next week for that , if all goes to plan I will train with them for 1 year, then I will head off to uni (already got some offers) for 4 years to do a masters in electronic engineering whilst getting paid around £15k p.a. by the Navy, when my degree course is over I'll go back to them as a Sub-Lieutenant.

Well, I hope it'll all work out anyway!

As you all know I am a Student, I love it, I work... not too hard, though when there are stresses they're major. I get to listen to music and call it hard work. Fantastic.

Part time I am hoping to be a money making member of an amazing string quartet, with the best name in the business thanks to Bendy.

After three years of what i would call absolute hell, torture, heavy work loads, and general slog ... in other words "going to uni". Evil or Very Mad

Where i considered quitting on many occasions. Rolling Eyes
And I thought i had seriously picked the wrong career choice. Confused

Until i started work 8 weeks ago.... Very Happy
I know i may still be in the new job 'honeymoon period'. But being a physiotherapist is a wicked job. I have yet to wake up in the morning and dread going to work. My main NHS job works with stroke patients, amputees, and the elderly. And for a bit of diversity i work at Reading football club in the evenings.

As every single day is different, with different challenges, different patients, and best of all, i control my own workload. I can spend 2 hours working with a patient if i wanted, or if i only spent 2 minutes with them, no one would question it.

I cant really explain the job satisfation i get from getting an amputee to walk, who hasnt even stood up for 3 months. Some days i just go home with a big smile on my face, as i know i have made an impact on someones future quality of life.

Very Happy

unfortunately through pure fluke and the fact I have become quite good at it I am a Planning enforcement Officer.

I dont agree with the rules and they are unclear and difficult to interpret and are diffrent in every situation. Although the rules are there to stop people taking the mick the type of people who do tend to get away with it through hiring good representation or giving us th erun around and the people who quite obviously arnt taking the mick can get it in the neck.

Unfortunatly after the time when I could have become qualified (I mean there are few people who know exactly what they want to do at the age of 10 when they have to make the disicions!!) I have realised that I should be working as a zoo keeper, fish husbandry, working with remedial case animals and horses (which I nearly managed to do but didnt continue - thanks to the morgage) or anything like that.

With my body and physique there is no way I should be working in an office.

Quite frankly I should be working on the land and sticking my hand up cows bums.

I am a Mechanic in a bike shop. It's ace, the 2 partners in the business are more like mates to me than a boss. They really are sound as fuck, and have a laugh, but when there's work to be done we crack on. I wish I got paid more, but that will come with time. Need to do my bike test as well because a soon as I have I am being trained up to be a bike instructor, I can then take out 125 lessons, and after I have had my licence 2 years and the 33bhp restriction removed I can do DAS lessons. I love my job Very Happy

I work for BT installing and repairing Phone lines. The job can be anything from a pain in the arse, to a doddle, but i generally see the advantages of my job outweigh the disadvantages, which right now are mainly the cold weather. i'm pretty much an outdoors person, and after going into so many firms, offices/factories/schools/hospitals etc etc, i could never be happy working indoors, or in the same place every day. I ain't too nosey i hope, but i've seen into alot of places through my job id never otherwise see, everything from Car factories, Laboratories, Power stations, Prisons, Government buildings, Courtrooms, etc etc, so thats kind of interesting. Half my day could be driving a van, which ain't too stressful really. Downsides are probably angry customers, lack of support from other departments at times, and i don't think i'm paid enough. Otherwise its a decent enough job!

I work for Comet. I am a sales advisor, and the basic is rubbish, as it is all commission based.

If I had the option, I would leave tomorrow. However, I am one of these people that actually will get another job before packing mine in.

The job is ok, but I hate the pushy nature, where you have to sale this, sale that blah blah blah.

Oh well! "Thats Comet Sense"

I'm using hard working tax payers money to pay for my passage to failure.

So when you lot are out there earning your money, just think the money that is being taken off you by the tax collector, is infact being spent on me, and i am in no way an investment for the future. Twisted Evil

Right this might be a long 'un so bear with me.

Currently I have a really cool job but I'm going to (briefly) explain how I ended up with it.

Firstly after my A levels I decided to go to Uni. Being that I wanted to be a Pilot in the RAF but couldn't due to health reasons I didn't know what I wanted. For some freaky reason or other I decided to study Physics and Chemistry at Brighton University. It was poo.
I changed courses to Mechanical Engineering which I loved every minute of. Apart from the Maths.

Now I'm not bad at maths, but differential equations are a bit of a bitch! Razz Smile
After two years of that, and one NS 125 later I had a problem (well, actually two).

The first was I was failing the pure maths part of the course that was a requirement, secondly I was in serious debt. I couldn't afford to go part time to re take the Maths, so I never went back after the summer break and somehow ended up working at Sainsburys.

Don't ever do this - it was the biggest mistake I made. Three years later I realise that I'm wasting my life and I have to get off my arse. I start to apply for better jobs. An interesting one comes up for a company called Pharos Communications. Never heard of them, but the ad started with the sentence

Pharos Ad wrote:
Do you enjoy taking things apart? Can you put them back together again?

That got my attention so I applied. Now having no formal qualifications apart from two A levels might have been a problem I pondered, but they asked me for an interview.

At the interview I met a gentleman by the name of Spencer. He told me that he wasn't looking for qualifications, just ability and asked me to explain to him how something reasonably technical worked. I began to explain to him how a four stroke engine worked...

six months later I'm working for Pharos as a Project Engineer. Pharos make bits and pieces of control equipment for broadcast companies. The infrastructure of the systems are all software based and we have very few pieces of custom hardware so I am basically a system configuration engineer. I change bits of text in configuration files.

Now, this may not sound interesting to you, but I get to spend a large proportion of my time in various TV studios and playout centres across the country fiddling with bits of computer equipment. Heaven! Smile
As a couple of added bonuses, we have clients across the world from the US to australia, from Saudi Arabia to Botswana. Also my latest project is involved with a porn channel! The work can get a bit dull, the pay isn't fantastic at the moment and there can be a lot of pressure from customers to get their system working (For some reason anyone who works for a TV company seems to think that TV is a matter of life or death and nothing else matters. Weird). However I'm having a whale of a time after Sainsburys and my boss thinks that I can do well in the future with the company too.

I am hoping to try my hand at software development too soon. For those of you that know about such things We mainly use Delphi and Kylix languages and a lot of our systems are based on the Red Hat Linux operating system. (hence the Kylix).

As Viper poiniently put I have yet to wake up and dread going to work! I love every minute and every day is a challenge. Now I may not get the same sort of job satisfaction as being a physiotherapist but there is a certain satisfaction in seeng a TV channel play out smoothly on a system that you designed and configured. Plus everyone that works in my company is a laugh, and working for a company with less than 40 emplyees is the best way to work IMO.

Oh and anyone wants a free pen, mouse mat or anything I'll see what I can do Wink
