Personally i'm not buying it.

Why a guy in his position would make a recommendation about his competition and say its for the benefit of the country. It all makes little sense.

I suspect his motives are more malicious, either to promote the spread of information about sharia law and so increase fear among brits that it's a possibility that Muslims could try and bring this to the UK. Or that he genuinely does want sharia law to come to britian if only to oppress the freedom of british Muslims and force a tension between strict / liberal Muslims.

Either way i think it's great he has come out with it, the more people talking about sharia law the better.

Stupid old cunt was jealous that the Pope was getting all the attention for slagging the Muslims off a while back.

Figured he'd bring the spotlight back on himself, instead of on Ratzo.

Okay some points to consider:

Firstly, how can you take as credible the ramblings of a man who believes he has a relationship with a supernatural being, and that that being talks to him, not to you or me but to him.

Secondly, he's a liberal very liberal by the churches own wishy washy standards, and he was arse licking. Look at the faces in his audience and you'll see why he said what he said. He was going for appeasement, the apostle Paul (Saul) said "..be all things to all men..." he didn't say change with the wind and lick arses!

Thirdly, he underestimated the reaction of his conservative flock, WASPs are exactly what it says on the tin. They've seen (in their opinion) all the values they hold dear eroded by a multi-cultural society governed by people bending over backwards to please vocal minorities. What did he expect them to say? His flock are Christian and they believe they are right and Islam is wrong (and it works the other way too). He's shot himself in the foot here.

Lastly, English/Scottish law is adequate, and all the "barbaric" things within those laws have been overturned in the last century, the crimes of adultery and sodomy no longer exist, and punishments capital/corporal have been outlawed. So I wonder which bits of Sharia law should be incorporated in to English/Scottish law? The bits we've thrown away, or new bits we've never thought of? Personally I say to Mr Williams "I'm willing to put aside your obvious insanity, pick one let's discuss it!"

While the media has grabbed this story by the shorties, what's happening in the background?

A thing which concerns me more is,
"What's happening under the Robes and Dish-Dashs of all those 'Bearded' Men?" Mr. Green

Yeh, that problem is much more widespread than the media would have us believe.

Unlike Scottish and English law which constantly evolves...

"During the 10th century AD the Islamic legal community decided that it was impossible to improve upon the scholars' analysis of the divine law and that therefore there would be no further evolution of Shari'a. Since then the Shari'a' judges and scholars only role is to apply the law, they cannot change, modify or extend the law...."

How does 10th Century Shari'a rule on someone sitting outside someone's house logging onto their unprotected ISP access?

I think in all the hysteria what we forgot to see was ...

Did he not say that sharia law might come about for British Muslims.

Not Christians.

But its an interesting question to wonder what would happen if it were allowed to come in, so that it affected the Muslims only.

Would it mean that they would behave better? Or worse?

And how would it be arranged, so that those of other faiths would not be offended by the Sharia goings-on? Much of that could not be done in public on British streets. I remember the fuss that kicked off when some Muslims tried to butcher a sheep back in the '80s.

Would such a turn of events mean that Sharia laws would be upheld only in private, in which case, would this not drive some of it into dangerous and secret territory, such as "honour killings" already are.

As if we don't have enough problems with secretive Muslims as it is.

IMO it was just another piece of non-news, about as important as Spears going into hospital or Winehouse off to rehab.
MP's are current 1/3 the way through their discussions on the ratification of the 'European Constitution', yet the media pay very little attention to it.

Can I watch that on the freeview Parliament channel?
Cos I do sometimes flick over to that,

One can only watch so much of Richard Hammond's cuteness in Top Gear on "Dave".

I'm not sure if you can watch it on the TV. I often watch PMQ's but have been too busy of late.
