Anyone been a victim?

I have had someone trying to buy items from little woods online using my name, date of birth and address over the last few months and now i have received a letter from EGG, declining me a loan i never asked for.

If they have applied to EGG, they must have applied to loads of copmpanies, so even if they aren't getting any money, they are destroying my credit rating.

What can i do - who should i contact to cover myself?

I will phone EGG tomorrow, but i don't really know what else to do.

Littlewoods are pathetic at stopping/closing my account - even after asking 3 times they keep sending me invoices. My bank didn't care as no fraud had happened concerning my card or bank account.

Any help gratefully received.

Kaben

p.s i have an account number and sort code that the egg application was connected to. Its not mine so may be able to use this.

Get your credit reference from Experian and Equifax to see what else is going on in your name.

I can see where your bank is coming from, as there has been no fraud as far as they're concerned, but eventually there probably will be, so you'd think they'd be interested.

Report it to the police, and pass on the Egg details. You might want to write to one of those personal finance columns in the weekend papers (e.g., Indie on Saturday), they might be interested in covering the Egg story and get the answers on your behalf, this whole thing being a bit of a hot potato.

Don't just sit on it, as when it comes for you to ask for a loan or a mortgage, you'll be denied. Eventually it might be sorted out, but by then, you could have lost out on the bike, house or even a job if they want a credit reference.

Get your credit rating from Experian, if they are applying for loans & credit cards etc they might have got one. They will show up ifso. Report it to your local police as well. Have a look on somewhere like moneysupermarket.com as I think that they have information about identify theft....

Nothing your bank can do at present.

As others have said get yourself signed up for the 30 day free trial at experian... Remember to cancel it with them before the 30 days are up or you will get billed.

Gov Site

All are well worth a look at.
Now get into the habit of sheading/burning all info with any account and address details on.

I once managed to get 200 quid into my bank, from their paypal, into a spare account, into a 3rd party site, into my paypal, into my bank.

They got their money back in the end and agreed to not get authorities involved.

The lesson was learned. Karma

I have an insurance thing with my credit card thats an extra £7 a month I get a credit report send to me every month to see no one has stolen my identity and on my report it shows I am protected if companies go to look for credit checking. I havnt got the first one as only got this card a few weeks ago but thought it was worth it.

ID Fraud Guard is their name.
