Erm, highly illegal.
If you are capable of driving on the road, then surely you are capable of passing the driving test?

Just because some drivers are seemingly crap, doesn't mean its alright to drive a car when you yourself are not up to test standard.

to be honest, test standard is bollocks and unsafe anyway...
take bikes for example. if on the test, you approach a T junction where the road is joining yours, and you manouver towards the middle of the road in order to be seen better, you get a minor/major point, and could fail for being safe.

i would do the lessons, but in order to use the instructors car i need a minumum of 10 lessons at 2 hours/£40 each... its just loads!
it would be easier if not quite so legal to get my friend to take it in his car.

do some lessons and do it legit. 10 lessons would be sufficient if you are competent. Just to brush up on habbits, it's worth it.

I do find myself doing shoulder checks in the car though. Razz

The test is easy.

its the price that concerns me... im on £150-ish a week, im on shitty ''emergency ripoff tax'' until the inland revenue get off their arses and reply to all my letters. so thats £105 a week to live on, thats like 1 night out and petrol money with like £20 left over!

im after the cheap and easy option Very Happy

but do you reckon this plan will work??

If you haven't got the money to pay for some lessons and a test, then how are you gonna have money to buy a car, tax it and insure it, or were you gonna scoot round those laws too Rolling Eyes

Stupid idea, if you are so confident of your driving ability take the test in your friends car, will only cost for one days insurance to add you on.

As for the revenue, WTF are you writing letters for? One phonecall will sort the tax Rolling Eyes

Another guy my dad knows did this too , he was killed a few weeks later.

If you're so sure you can already drive then you won't need lessons. Just do the test. £40.

Don't be such a fucking twat. how much are lessons? £20 a pop? Do some, I guarantee you that you will fail your test without them as you need to do certain things in a specific order that you will not have learned.

Fucking around without a license will see you banned and a massive fine. If you cause an accident you'll be uninsured. If your as good as you say you are then you can pass your test within 60 days.

If you're so good, just take the test straight off.
I wouldn't expect you to pick up on that obvious flaw in your logic though.

Having done and passed a driving test myself, by the way, I can assure you that it is certainly not easy - there are certain ways of doing things that the examiner expects to see.

If you can't afford it, you can't do it.

If you can't afford £100 on a couple of lessons and test, how are you going to pay for a car? Tax, MOT, insurance, petrol.

Cars will always be there, just be patient.

I don't condone dodginess, but you see Scum getting pulled over in old shit boxes with just a provisional and no tax and no insurance, they get a fine and maybe their car towed away, that's all. And off they go to buy another shit box for £75. Thinking

Just a matter of not getting caught which is unlikley to happen if you're just using it to get to work and back. I was a witness to a bike accident, I helped the rider to the side of the road and got his bike out of the road, but couldn't hang around because I was illegal... not great at all. And if you have a smack, that's going to be all she wrote.

There's no real difference in getting your dodgy licence, it's like having car insurance on a car with not tax and no MOT, it won't count for anything.

Aside from the cost of the car and all that jazz, the main problem would be if your friend is as abysmally stupid as you and said yes, he's more than likely to fail anyway. The moment you pass your test everything tends to go out the window, then you start learning properly. You must know this, having passed a bike test.

You shouldn't be writing to HMRC, you should be talking to your employer. PAYE stands for pay as you earn, and is generally administered by the employer. If you are on emergency tax it is because you either haven't handed in your P45 from a previous employment, or because your employer is shit.

It sounds to me like you think you are going to fail the test and you can't be arsed, so you want a cop out solution.

If you are so good on the road, then do a couple of lessons to get the manuevres down, and then take the test. You'll pass if you are as good as you say you are.

Additionally do you think that the DVLA etc haven't heard of this scam already? They know all the tricks and are looking out for them, so even if you did go ahead with it, you could get into serious trouble.

If you were to lose your license because of this, then you would lose your bike license too, which you got legitimately. Its basically a stupid idea and completely not worth it.

I suggest you learn to live within your means. After I've paid my rent, bills, etc, I end up with about the same. My advice is to stop going out - it's a huge waste of money. If you want a car, save up to get the license.

Who told you that?......I suspect they talk as much crap as you.

Its just not true, if you are indeed the driving god that you portray, then you will only need a couple of lessons one to practice the parking and turns and such like and one to go through the test route so you know what to expect, your instructor should allow his car to be used, my landlord is a driving instructor and he does that for those that want to.

^ thats how I afford my bike on a student budget.

Anyway, Matt, it's a bloody stupid idea to be fair. Do your test, even if you only have a handful of lessons. Most the overconfident drivers I know have crashed, and they are the ones who have taken tests. What chances you have if you haven't taken your test and are overconfident I don't know, but they are gonna be pretty slim.

Save up, do your test, buy my polo. You'd like it, it'll remind you of your 400.

you still live at home right Matt? I manage to live off ~ £15 a week for everything bar rent, try drinking less.

And if youve been told by one driving instructor you need ten lessons to use his car try ringing others, I'm sure they love prospective students ringing them and telling them how great they are, it's still worth a try.

Could look at it the other way. I've got my full car test. I've ridden a moped round a field, so I can ride a bike. Should I find someone who looks like me with a bike licence and copy it so I can ride a big bike without bothering with my test Rolling Eyes
