Right, my missus is working near Heathrow for 3 days this week - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (back late Friday). So we won't be together for valentines day.

Now I'm a man of action and am considering driving down (from Sheffield) after work on Thursday to 'appear' at her hotel room door, flowers in hand, stay for an hour or 2, then drive back again. I've got Friday off anyway but that's to visit family in Preston, and then come back again...
So leave Sheffield at 6ish, 3hours to Heathrow, couple of hours there, 3 hours back to arrive about 1-2ish am. 5 hours kip before driving over to Preston, stay a couple of hours, then back again - a probable 3 hour round trip.

Would you do it? Question

For valentines day? What a waste.

Such a pointless day, designed to improve clinton cards and interflora's profits.

Who cares if it's a commercial holiday, it's all about the gesture!

If you can be bothered, do it. I'm going from Stoke to Somerset myself, not quite as much of a trek.

You can guarantee brownie points though, and that is innuendo. Razz

You haven't gone there yet...

But anyway, if you're going to do that, do something ORIGINAL. Depends on your/her tastes what you do, and the depth of your relationship, but try to come up with something unique. Make her something, write her a poem, arrange for you to do something together as a surprise etc. Even taking her flowers you have picked yourself counts...

you dont have to spend money and buy into the commercialism of valentines day to say you love someone. Just spending time with her/him, going for a walk or picnic or all that slushy stuff is much better. Although for some girls its nice being treated but being loved is much better than a meal. https://www.fadzter.com/smilies/love.gif

I like the idea's, thanks! Thumbs Up

I was thinking of doing something like turning up in my cream dinner jacker, white shirt, black trousers, single red rose and being a james Bond for the evening or something. Just one thing missing, dunno if anyone has one I can borrow....

Aston Martin!? Doesn't have to be an exact replica or anything though. Dance!

I got to 'from Sheffield' before I clicked 'no'.

Ffs, it's only a day, just like any other. You can handle her not being together for any other evening, so why is this one any different? Valentine's day is one big fucking con, yeah I'll be getting the missus a card and some flowers, but do a crazy trip like that. No fucking chance. Stay in, get your mates round, get a kebab and get pissed, that's what you want to do. Man the fuck up.

Christ, it's only £40's worth of petrol, that will barely buy a bunch of serviceable flowers!

Instead, send her a stripper dressed as Bond, James Bond. After nine years of marriage, she might like to try a different one this Valentine's Day.

Depends just HOW much you value her,

EVERYBODY in the group really valued and appreciated D , when she crashed badly and was hospitalised , many of the old group were there to visit her.

YMMV however,

Also there is of course the danger mentioned above that you find her in a compromising position with 5 other guys in a 5 way chicken Wink

Oh come on, guys, don't encourage this kind of soppy behaviour. Men should be men and forget about Valentine's Day.

Now you're just confusing me. You're now making me expect a romantic gesture and if it's not forthcoming, I'll get pissed off instead of just shrugging it off as something men just don't do.

Its a 3 hour drive, barely heroic.

Do it, much kudos for very little effort. Besides, if you love them and you think its worth it, and you know they will appreciate it then it must be worth it, innit Question

By the way, nothing spells romance like a tacky plastic bottle with some edible undies inside. Drives em wild Wink A gushing torrent is the expression I believe.

Eh, actually, that may be why I'm valentineless this year Laughing
