PostPosted: 18:50 - 11 Feb 2008    Post subject: Insurance NCB Question... Reply with quote

Hi,

My current policy finishes on March 2nd 12noon (A Sunday).
I may be switching bikes soon via part ex, most likely on the 1st.

Would it matter to the new insurance if I insured the new bike with 2 years NCB even though my current policy which would give me that second NCB doesnt end till the next day?

Thanks all.

Of course it matters, you haven't had 2 years complete NCB unless you have gone past the date, just wait til the next day.

wouldn't be a problem in all honesty. If the insurance admin monkey is eagle eyed enough to notice the day difference, are they really going to bother loading your policy for the 1 day in which you only had 1 years no claim bonus.

If they happen to notice, just say "Oh, I thought my old policy expired on the 1st, I feel so daft".

Safe bet is they won't even notice.

If you made a claim though, and they investigate, wouldn`t they see that when you got the policy, you infact didn`t have two years NCB when you got the policy, thus got it under fulse protences = Loss adjustment...? Shocked

That was my thinking. TBH, i'd rather wait a day than risk it.

Pick the phone up and ask them as they will be the best person to help in this situation surely?

Agree with Minty although if it was me id ring 'em and see if they'd agree it.

I mean the only difference is the pro-rata difference in premium for one day which is going to be a few quid at the very top end but more likely just a few pence so for the sake of that few pence they should just agree it.

Should do.

I`ve got a few online quotes written down, will see if I can haggle them down once I`ve decided which bike im going for, as well as asking about the situation.

Thanks all.

The claims side of things is not relevant. Once an admin monkey amends the policy to show the NCD has been accepted, that is it. Why would the claims side of the business then need to look at the NCD in the event of a claim? Doesn't happen.

Just watch that they don't slap a £30 admin fee if you stay with the same Co for the change of bike.

My last change was about 2 weeks before the end of the old policy, i just told the new ins co i had x years no claims, when they asked for proof, i just told them the old ins co and policy no and left them to sort it out, of course waiting till the 2 weeks were up Very Happy Came back with no problems....
Damm sure i was not going to pay £30 to old ins just to change details for 2 weeks, which is what the old co wanted to do. Instead they lost my custom.

Well if you can get away with 2 weeks Im sure I`d be fine for a day.
May ask them just to be sure tho.

I`ll be changing insurance Co anyway.
No way Bennetts is getting a penny of my money for another year.

Im with MCE and they seem to work odd - Roll on Oct when I cna cancel!
Sundays, I changed bikes - Big no no from MCE 'Our office for swapping insurance is not open on Sundays'
Ok I thought, well my policy ended today anyway Ill go else where....

'Well miss *** you policy was put onto another year'

WTF? Ohhhhhhh noooo, I didnt ask, I had no letters to say my policy was ending, change my insurance Or ill be doing something about it.

Few nice words and a swap was done, the fee to change over bikes was also free Thumbs Up

Just double check your compant can change on Sundays!
