Seen this 2007 Aprilia 125, It didnt meet its reserve but we have been in contact and he has said £1350

Its LH side fairing needs replaced and gear lever to what we can see,
Gear lever £30 tops off of flee-bay, however the fairing I cant find yet.
I will have to ride it back tommorow, should be ok with the gear lever being the way it is.
I have good and bad feelings about this bike, I want to say yes because its 2007 and OH will be happy with it, and to me seems an easy fix.

Yay or nay ?

Aprilia's nooooooooooooooooooooooooo dont get one.

dont get me wrong they are very fast but they go wrong so much!!!!

I brought a brand new RS125 back in 2002 after 6 months i sold it for a big loss and brought a 2nd hand NSR.

Get a NSR, they are slower but at least they dont blow up every time you open it up!

its upto you mate what you spend your money on but my Aprilia broke down 5 times in 6 months. The gear box locked up when i was doing 70 on the A3 on the last brake down.

go with honda you know you wanna hehe

As said may times before, maintain and care for the RS125 and it should be fine. Though the maintenance schedule is pretty jam packed!

I had an NSR, I used it from march to august and it spent most of the time with something wrong and ended up being a bit of a shed 'cos I couldn't afford to keep buying Honda spares so had to bodge it!

They are good bikes, i had a '99 about 4 years ago, the gearbox blew on it after about 4k.
They cost a hell of alot to run (at 17 nearly as much as a ducati 749).

unless you can do the matinence, and i know you dont like it that much Wink then get something more reliable or 4T.

Why do you want it? You have an SV650 which is better in almost every way. OK so it might not be as good handling (but it's against a lightweight 125), but the extra power more than makes up for it.

If it was for a track bike then I could maybe understand it, the engine is nearly new and track fairings would be going on it. Can't see any reason why you would want it on the road rather than the SV650 though.

i had a nsr125rk 92' import and i done over 10k miles on it and it never let me down..... untill a deer popped out on me.

I changed my oil every 1500miles and used top of the range 2stroke oil.

The only thing which broke on it in the year i owned it was the starter motor.

my Aprilia was nothing but a pain in the ass! The RS had a few thing better then the NSR like:

The brakes.............. well thats about it. being a lighter bike its easier to stop haha

If you read the post the bike isn't for her.

From a first read and knowing nothing about Louise, I wouldn't say it was obvious it wasn't for her just based on what she said.. but at least I know now Razz .

Still I wouldn't say it's a good first bike either. RS125's are a weird one.. they're good enough to go really quick with a good rider.. but most good riders would rather have more power than a 125 can muster (not counting GP bikes). bad for a newbie due to lack of steering lock, bad riding position (you either love it or hate it) and need for maintainance.

Basing it on that particular bike, fairings aren't cheap and being a newish model there won't be many on eBay to replace it either. The rest is repairable pretty easy though I suppose, if you can live with the scuffs.

Is there anything I should look for inperticular on the RS

They are not actually that high maintainance. I ragged the tits off mine and back again and it was still going strong when i sold it.

Didnt make much of a loss on resale either.

Please for the love of god do not buy a 4 stroke 125. They are not as reliable as people make out. I know ive owned both varietys.

From the pics it looks like an un-molesterd example, unlike the vast majority. Standard tyres are Dunlop 208's. Great tyre once you get the heat in them. Look for chicken strips to see how the bike as been rode. Ask for reciepets of work been carried out. Check the clock to see if the spanner as been taken off (service interval indicator). Standard chain and sprockets took me to 10,000km before i sold it. If you can get yours hands on a compresion tester (halfords) give that a go and it should give you a good idea on whats going on in the cylinder.

Great bikes, if rode properly. Shows many of the weekend warriors up on a nice twisty road.

Thumbs Up

Better brakes
Better suspension
Better frame and swinger
Lighter wheels
Better engine design
Not to mention the NSR looked like a fat hooker in the dark.

Each to there own, but i cannot see where you get your opinions from as there not in the slightist bit factual.

You clearly know nothing about bikes as you prove nothing you say.

Anyone can come out with brash comments, but untill you have facts then why feel the need to say anything at all. Your clearlynot adding anything usefull to this thread.

4 stroke 125 after normal riding and 11000 miles.

Some people dont encounter problems on RS125s, the higher majority do.
My recommend that if you do buy it, give it a little once over before you even ride it properly, change the filter, the plug and if you can the gearbox oil.
That should give you a little more peace of mind, also use a high quality oil, this is what made the bike almost as expensive as running my Ducati.
2-strokes drink petrol anyway added with £10.50 oil every 3-4 fillups it makes for an expensive bike, coupled with the insurance on one at 17.

Also, warm the dam thing up before you ride.

I have too, and the 4t only ever had one oil change which it didn't need, and it was an unreliable Korean piece of plastic but it was mint, virtually no maintenance except it ate through batteries. My 2 stokes have been double maintenance but also double if not triple the fun.

You have had a bad one or don't know what you are on about.

Well I showed her the comments above and im guessing were still deciding Laughing
She has seen a 2003 Yam TDR for £1475, she offered £1300 he wants £1400 so there both have prolly given up now Laughing
Theres an NSR near me, he wants 1k for it, 2003 which I think its a good buy, just a few marks which you cant really see and 11k miles.

I thought buying a 125 was hard, but now its just a stressful time finding one for her Laughing

I have said go do the full test, but I dont think she is that interested just yet so finding a good bike for her height (6'1) is a bit of a challenge.
Her budget is around £1200 maybe more if the bike it right.
We both agree the Hyosung sports is really nice, but just too much with just under 2k sale price.

is there really a big difference between 2T and 4T

TBH I prefer the sound of a 4T and so will her neighbours lol.
