Hey all. Upgrading from a fairly dead ( Crying or Very sad ) gp100, I am looking for a fairly newish 125 to get me by until I pass the bike test before October at some point. Seems to be very few 125s around on ebay at the moment around Southampton, and I'm looking at a cbr and a ybr. I know the cbr is a bit more expensive, but I will make the long motorway excluding trip home from uni to just north of London every few weeks and would a like extra power. Anyways was wondering if anyone can say what the real life difference between the 2 is speed wise?

These are the only 2 bikes i've ever ridden.

The first one being what i own, the second being what i learned on.

I never had the YBR upto its top speed, but i rekon it'd be good for about 60mph.

The CBR is ok for about 70mph, but i wouldn't take it on motorways... It doesn't have the umph to get there in any sensible time, and will lose alot of speed on anything but the most non-existant of inclines...

Both very nice bikes, comfy Smile

You could also look at the more modern Honda CGs as they are very similar to the YBR.

Scooore Very Happy just sorting out getting this, will be riding on wednesday. £1200 seems rather reasonable and insurance is £355 TP (I'm 18 and most quotes were around 1k). What roads around Southampton are good if there are any locals here? I have missed biking so much!

Not everyone with a 125 is a learner.

No but the original poster is and said as much in their initial post... The comment about Motorways was just a little confusing and I must admit I got the wrong end of the stick as well.

I have got an indicated 74 odd on my YBR, i mean we are talking wind behind me, down a very big hill, thrashing the living daylights out of it.

If you are talking straight line speed they will both be much of a muchness, theyre both four stroke 125 singles. Longer periods of high speed on a CBR would probably be more comfortable because of the fairing. I imagine round town or on B roads the CBR would be faster, or have the potential to be faster, because it has better brakes, better tyres and probably a better frame. Although to be honest, with 125s i think it is all about the confidence of the rider.

The real menace on YBRs are the stock tyres and the shitey brakes. I dare say a CBR would be better for the sake of having actual rubber tyres as stock.

Speaking from my experience, i am a bit sick of my YBR, espescially as it threw me yesterday. Have you considered an Aprilla RS125?

Id dunno what the standard ruber is like on th YBR, but it's pretty rubbish on he CBR, with your choice being limited to BT-39SS' (That or fit oversized tyres).

What the choice of rubber like on the YBR?

My YBR still has the Taiwanese nylon tyres it came with, and they are absolutely horrible. Pirelli City Demons seem to be pretty popular to shod YBRs, i dont have the money to replace though.

'ello,

I have a YBR. Recently had a slow puncture on the back so booked it in to have both tyres replaced with Michelin sportys. During the last week I had to keep my footpump in the topbox as it was going down during the day! Not the best situation.

Had the sportys on for about two weeks and they seem just about scrubbed in. Can't tell you what a HUGE difference it makes to the handling of the bike. Got them fitted for £75 all in with a new inner tube for free. (motorcycle trade-ins in Poole).

I now love my bike even more than I did before, the new tyres make it feel like a different bike, it's just lovely, especially on the twisty bits on the way to work!

was off the bike and getting lifts for about a week, felt SO depressed that I wasn't on the bike, but I'm very happy now :0)
