I could use a small favour.

I had an accident and now I need to tell the insurers how much I'm owed as a result. If anyone could do the relevant calculations as I'm shocking with financial maths, I'd really sppreciate it.

I was off from the 18th of June until the 3rd of September.

I should have worked 60 days in that time, at £8.24 an hour, 7 hours a day.

Which comes to £3460.80 before deductions.

What I need to know, is what I would have paid in NI? I'm waiting to find out from my employer whether I would have been under the student working tax bracket, but I can't do the maths that steals 11% out of everything above £435 a month. Can anyone help me out?

2305.81

60 days will probably be two months, so thats 435x2 = 870

3460.80-870 = 2590.8

2590.8*0.89= 2305.81

Hope this helps

It's not 2 months as I only worked 5 days a week. I can do the maths if I was working 7 days a week. Laughing

So what ? £288.4 a week?

erm

-£100 excepted amount

11% of £188.4

erm £22.23 or £20.68 says my other rough calculation or £21 says my dodgy excel sheet.

I've always been bad at NIC and let the computer take the strain (moved away from tax and I do more auditing than anything else these days) ,

BUT TBH if you only made 3.6K in a whole year you shouldn't have paid NIC anyway, but HMRC always make assumptions and NIC being non refundable its a nice little earner.

I got £20.72, just using /100*11.

So that means I lose £248.64 for the period.

I read the NIC website and it said that's what I get charged as a student working during the holidays.

https://www.hmrc.gov.uk/students/work_hols_while_student_8_1.htm

This isn't all I earnt this financial year, it's plus another £1500 in wages from this job and more from a secondary job at the weekends - hopefully I can avoid being taxed aswell!

HM Revenue & Customs calculators. Nice & Simple.

However, work it out payday by payday or the NI calculations are inaccurate.
