I'm looking at buying a Varadero 125 that had it's CDi unit/ECU (is there a difference between the two?!) pinched. I've seen a couple of the units on ebay and was going to buy one and fit it myself.
I'm no mechanic, and would appreciate any advice on this one. Is it just a case of putting it in and fitting a few wires, or is there a good bit more to it?
Cheers!

A replacement CDI will just plug straight in . Although I'd be questioning why it was removed in the first place as without it you dont even know if the bike runs or not.

Indeed, that's why I'll be taking the cdi along with me to make sure it runs! If not, I'll just punt it on ebay.

One for the boffins here, just had the following suggestion:

"The ECU is chipped to match the key or vice versa to be precise.
If you take another ECU it will not recognize the key
May work with both ECU and matching key."

That would be a nightmare for me! Anyone able to say if it's definitely the case?
Cheers.

If that's the case, then it has an immobiliser built into it, and, yes, you'll need a matching key, or know where to get one programmed for your unit.

Thanks mate. I've been searching the net and I'm hoping that, from what I've found, I think it's the new models that have it fitted. The one I'm looking at is a '53 plate so fingers crossed.
