Just recieved a lovely letter from my college that if I want to continue to park my motorcycle there, I have to sign a form promising that I will "Turn the engine off and walk the motorcycle from the front gate to the motorcycle parking area"

This parking area is a good 100 meters from the gates and involves going up a slope. Not only is this a big effort, it also involves risking getting hit by buses and cars (mums dropping their kids off = deadly), and makes me look like a complete tit.

Quite frankly, if they think I'm going to do a morning workout everytime I want to come to college just to park my bike, they can go fuck themselves. Middle Finger

Will definatly be contesting this. I thought the world had moved on from biker hating Rolling Eyes Next thing I know I'll be getting chucked out of pubs Razz

simply reply that you will be happy to oblige if car owners turn off their engines at the gate and push their cars to where they want to park

What's their reasoning behind the request?

Question

Ped owners being twats and making too much noise next to the office has pissed someone in charge off. But the letter doesn't say this, its for "our own safety and the safety of pedestrians in the car park".

Colin, thats the first thing I thought of too. And arn't cars more likely to hurt pedestrians anyway? Razz

Edit: My other idea if they get pissy about this, is to push it right into the nearest empty car parking bay to the gate. Theres already a big shortage of spaces and a bike in one would really get on their nerves. If they ask why I dont use the motorcycle area, I'll say its too far to push it, and I prefer here.

Thumbs Up Agree with this.

There's no real point in their request. If they have issues with an individual's behaviour they should take it up with that individual themselves. Why should everyone else suffer the 'nanny-state' syndrome your college advocates?

Exactly. They've already got names matched to number plates so they know who is taking the piss. Laughing It's not like we can help making noise, but the kids on the peds feel the need to rev the shit out of them for no reason.

I dont know how they plan on enforcing it anyway.

Thumbs Up

Just keep parking there, At uni car parking is a nightmare with security checkpoints/lack of spaces etc, i just ride right into the middle of campus and stick it under the bicycle shelters, spitting distance from lectures. No one has said anything yet.

If they get really officious and cunty just say you have a bad knee, and that you ride your bike for improved mobility, so you are more than happy to comply with their request if they provide a member of staff, trained in the correct handling of a motorcycle to push your bike from the gate to wherever, obveously this staff member would have to be completely flexible to your comings and goings... otherwise its disability discrimination, biker discrimination, and while your at it take a quick trip down your local mine and play the race card too, that'll teach em Razz

tell them to piss off, me dav1 and fawbish, had this problem at collage, but mainly for not using the bike shed, which was packed with scuffy peds, and push bikes, and their wasnt room to get the bike thru the gate.

so we started parking 4 bikes in one car space, they told us to move them because there was a car with one person in it who couldnt find a space, and they said we had to park our bike on the road. we to them to fuck off and the next day we took one space for each bike.

so just tell them to ram it.

simple - sign the letter and return it.
then, ride the bike in through the front gate and to a car parking space near to but not in the bike parking area - when they question you simply say ' the letter said i must push it to the MOTORCYCLE parking bay, it did not state anything about riding it to any other parking space, so now i am wasting a car parking space which you could have used'

Sign the letter, then drop the bike on another student while pushing it to the parking.
Sue them for being stupid.

Bah, who listens to that crap.

We got told that bikes are not allowed on the property at our college.

So we used to get there early and steal all the spots the teachers liked, close to the doors.

LOL looks like some twat boss being pissed off at a bit of noise so he wants to make all your lives hell. TBH i would not sign it and just drive normal. If someone had a problem with the way i drove they can goto the police or talk to me in person about it and be a man.

I dont think they have a leg to stand on if everyone stands up to it, just tell them to fuck off.

I do like the idear of nicking there parking place thats a good way to piss them off LOL.

As far as i can make out during my time at uni the students "union" is run by the biggest pissheads on campus, and wouldent know where to even begin with something not related to alcohol or shitty suburban clubs where people can pose for facebook pictures...

The BMF, is that not in terminal decline with the leadership FUBAR?, i mean a couple years back i loved the KillSpills rides but then they sold out and instead of shutting down london as we shouild have, made it a ride to donnington park, with police escort, and charged you for the priviledge.

I dont know enough about MAG to comment,

But as a relatively young rider i dont feel like any of those organisations would or could do anything for me if i was in the OP's situation.

MAGs still going strong, as a member it seams to be going thru abit of a re-image, which is good coz althou im a member i dont ride a chopper i ride a sports bike and i ride it like its meant to be.

both me and dav1 are MAG rep's we both go round the dealer's and keep upto date with them, and i also run the east yorkshire mag website.

join up and start going to your local meetings, bring the isue up there and other members will be able to give you good advice on what to do, or if your lucky you could hold a demo at your collage Razz

Pushing a bike up or going down a slope could be considered more dangerous than riding. When riding you have two brakes to use as opposed to only one when pushing. You have a sight advantage. Generally more controllable.
HSE would be interested.

I love knee JERKS. They only do it cause they can the Despots. It is plainly abusive use of authority.
I would 'key' every fking car in the staff car park. Mad Embarassed

Funny you should mention this because I've been told to move as the place where i normally park my bike is right outside some offices (i think its the noise but its only 4 times a day a max there going to hear it) threatened me with clamping Confused.

I don't fancy parking around back where all the scooter are as 1. its miles away and any cunt can come with a transit and nick your bike 2. Its full of chavs that could do stuff to my bike and i would rather not take the risk.

Thing is i get payed by the guys who complained (training company) so i guess im going to have to fucking move.

I'm not *that* angry Laughing Will be having words with the staff responsible though, basically to tell them where to stick it. Like has been said, if they dont like my riding in the car park, they can call the police.
What really got me though. is apparently I have to "request permission to ride to school" - erm, isn't that what license and insurance are for? Middle Finger

I feel safer riding it, especially with dozey mums around dropping off kids, and buses blocking vision. Definatly dangerous to push it!
