It seems that the EU beurocrats might have buggered up Formula 1 this season. The have said that if a driver is killed on the track, they are going to issue arrest warrants for the team principle for that team Evil or Very Mad ! Allot of the teams are saying they will boycott the european rounds if this is not changed Sad .
The full story can be found here:
https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/3411505.stm

I wonder if this will have a knock on effect to Moto GP, WSB and BSB?

I honestly didn't think there was any more buggering to be had out of F1, but that reaches new heights. (Or depths, depending on your viewpoint.) It's sucked for years, and will continue to suck, and that's from an ex-devoted F1 fan. The sport died with Ayrton and that's that. We'll never get it back.

Hi

I can believe it. The situation for all sorts of liability stuff is getting stupid.

However if they are doing this for F1 then watch it appear for all sorts of other motor sports, and even track days.

Some years more people are killed in the UK fishing for sport than do in motorsport.

All the best

Keith

I used to be a big fan of F1 too. I stopped watching it about 2 years ago, because everything about it is becoming a joke. First the domination by Ferrari put me off, and then loads of these new safety rules mean it is just not as exciting anymore. Fair enough if they increase spectator safety, but the drivers know that what they do is dangerous, surely they dont need to be wrapped up in cotton wool!

The scale of Beauracracy is becoming staggering. Politicians and pen pushers in their offices are desperate to get their fleabitten claws into every single aspect of our lives. It is past time that something was done about it. The EU is already becoming stagnant and decadent, not to mention impotent. I hope this stranglehold of beauracracy falls within my life time and if it does, i will stand at the top of a hill and laugh until i can't laugh any more. They've got it coming to 'em Twisted Evil .

I have to agree too.

F1 used to be a great sport, now its just pretty stagnant. Cars don't overtake or anything. And Ferrari's dominance has just made things worse. Maybe they could introduce a weight-addition rule for teams/drivers who win x amount of races in a row (I think they do this in NASCAR, although that motorsport is just crap in general).

F1 died with Senna and the rise of Schumacher/Ferrari. Senna's death at San Marino helped safety a lot, but they've gone too far and made it just plain boring.

And, back on topic... I'm not surprised at all the EU has slapped this rule on teams. They're just trying to remove the fun from everyones lives!

Could also see a fair bit of backlash against this from a lot of people. Near-track business owners will suffer heavily, as racing spectators need hotels, food and drink.

I can't believe people are saying this about F1 after last season!
Was I the only person to watch any of it, or was I watching a different championship?
I can honestly say that the 2003 season had some of the closest racing and best overtaking I have ever seem in F1 - and I've been watching it for nearly 20 years!
The new rule changes have made a real difference, and things promise to be even closer this year. Yes, Schumacher won (again Rolling Eyes), but it went all the way to the last race if the season and he won it because he was the best driver.
For those of you that used to watch but started to find it boring in the late 90s early 00s give a few races a watch this year - hopefully you won't be disappointed, and you might even be surprised.

I used to watch F1 with a passion but over the last couple of years I've pretty much stopped for one simple reason.

It's Sunday. It's sunny. I'd rather go out on my bike.

They need to run the F1 season over the winter! It's all going to end up in the far east anyway due to Bernie and the tobacco sponsorship, so why not run it at the time of year that folk will watch. Very Happy

Football is on over the winter months so it'd be competing with that. Confused Although I reckon every race should be held in the rain/sleet/snow. Always more exciting in the wet isn't it Very Happy

I don't like football though. Very Happy You'd get a bit of time difference with the races being further overseas - I like the more tea-time slot that you get with South American races.

Agreed, the chance of worse weather would add some nice variation, and also give the smaller teams more of a chance.

They should get rid of those ridiculous cut slicks, ban traction control, allow turbos and ban launch control. Oh and allow active suspension again. Smile

Oh and they should allow only 990cc engines with a max of 6 cylinders, and get rid of two of the wheels Wink

MotoGP is far more exciting Smile

They sometimes overtake more than once a lap!

Seriously though, the only reason why this season wasn't a complete walkover for Schumi is because they had to make it not look fixed. I bet Ferrari use all of their old 70's tricks like getting the car weighed with a lead drivers seat and water in the tyres instead of air. This means that they can run lighter than the scrutinnering will measure. Also I remember the year before last, - after they had banned traction control - Murray Walker saying:

"Schumachers engine is misfiring!"

Nope that was the illegal traction control kicking in. They just set up their launch control computer to work at a higher speed. Electronics are so complex that its impossible for the scrutineers to test to see if the cars have such enhancements. This is why the teams with the most money will always win. They can get around the rules! Smile

They should ban all electronics from engine control and allow active suspension. That would make it good again! Also this year the it crews are allowed upstream telemetry where they can modify the fuelling of the car from the pits. This is bad. The drivers should drive the cars, not the pit crews!

No, We should make all of the chaps drive Lotus 7's and wear tweed suits. That would be good form, what? And instead of those silly green and red lights, the chap on pole just shouts "Tally Ho!"

Spiffing sport eh? Thoroughly English. Motor racing is a gentlemen's sport, glass of pimms brought by a fine filly, open topped tourers with plenty of chrome!

And when you're introduced to your "Brolly Dolly", you have to say:
(before kissing her hand)

<smirk>And where did you find THIS lovely creature?</smirk>
