Is there alot of price diffrence between online shops and shops in town?
I need to buy everything as im just starting and not sure what brands are good and if to get them online or not
I was thinking of finding the brands i want on the internet, then going into a shop and trying them on to find the size, then come home and order them
Thats if their cheaper online

Any advice?

thanks

Generally this is perceived to be the best plan, however I personally found that the stuff I was buying was only ~£30 difference overall, and I much preferred having the help of experienced staff in a shop to get the right helmet fit and that. You can do then go and buy online, but if everyone does this, then soon there won't be any shops left Rolling Eyes

The other thing is returning an item to a shop is a hella lot easier than sending it back to an internet supplier and telling them about it.

When I bought my first lid, the first time I pushed the visor up the whole way whilst at speed, it cracked. If I'd had to send it back to a manufacturer and that on the internet, it would have taken ages. I just stopped in at the shop I bought it from later that day, got a new one and that was that.

Generally speaking, the price of a helmet doesn't matter these days (thanks to the safety guidelines they are required to meet.) However, you do get what you pay for (for example, the more expensive helmets tend to surpass the standards, whereas budget ones simply meet them) but generally at the speeds this matters you're probably buggered anyway (from what I've heard.)

I bought my textiles and lid from my local Yamaha/Honda dealer -

Got a good, decently padded Bering jacket for £100 reduced, was originally £145. My lid is a silver Shark RSF2 which was RRP £180 but I got mine for £90 on clearance as they are a bit out of season.

You could probably find some deals at your local place, aslong as they have a good selection of stuff they'll always have a bargain bin area for things they want to clear. Laughing

I'm happy with my equipment although once I get a bigger bike I'll probably be looking at investing in leathers and atleast £300+ for a better helmet... All in good time. Mr. Green I would always buy a helmet from a dealer though, so I can ensure its a good fit and the staff are happy to help (naturally).

but a lass that works at one of them helped me out and said what was in her words 'shit' and what was good ,does this sound right:

£300 on leather (reduced from £400)
£100 - £160 on hemlet (reduced from £200 - £250-ish)
£80 on boots
(dont know about gloves)

also are the people that work there on commision thats what this lad said at college, but hes likes to make things up alot

If you think the quality of the product is worth the price, why not buy it! Obviously cheaper is better but I've always noticed that the savings aren't always that great if you buy it online. Sometimes just getting it in a shop is more convenient, aslong as your happy with what your buying!

I'm on a Ybr125 so textiles are fine for that, I think I'd look a bit silly in leathers. Laughing

£300 on leather, what sort? 2 piece? brand?
100-160 on lid? does it fit better than a £70 caberg or nitro? best fit you want, not the best brand
Boots yeah, but check out ebay for some cheap sidis
gloves ~£30. I got mine £2.50 on ebay.

I haven't seen it, but what sort of bike are you going to be riding?
Instead of spending that much on leather trousers I decided to buy two pairs of voto protective jeans, which aren't quite as good, but are way more practical.

To be honest, leathers aren't great for this time of year. They will not offer much protection against rain and if you wear anything underneath them they will stretch and lose their protection. Leathers need to be skin tight.

If you gonna be using your bike for commuting, I would recommend some textiles, like Frank Thomas or Hien Gerrick, you can get a two piece for a bit less than £300 which will be more versatile.

If its just for summer hoons then a two or one piece leather may be better.

Choose a lid to fit, don't go for most expensive, best brand or nicest decals.

Gloves and very important, cold hands will kill you, and boots will protect your ankles and shins from the tarmac and or hot engine/exhaust, if you drop the bike.
