The back story:
Recently started work with an offshoot of Adidas. Building itself is located in the middle of an industrial estate, has limited car parking in front and some space at the rear where the deliveries are made.
The Problem:
Some jumped up secretary has been complaining (behind my back) that my bike shouldnt be parked in the car park as it uses up a whole space. On leaving work today she finally decides it might be an idea to talk to me and asks me if I would park it behind the building. Her reasoning "its a waste of space to have a whole space taken up by one bike" even suggesting the cycle bay as an idea (I can see how the dear can get confused... Rolling Eyes ). Me being in an already defensive mood after her bitching seemed only to anger her more (only added to my gratification).
Factors for consideration:
Dont want to park out back due to delivery trucks swinging around in there all day.

crap round the back making bike dirty/nails and shit risking my tyres

My bike brings one person to work just like most of the cars so why is my vehicle any more a waste of space.

One bike in a space or one car does should it matter?

Extra walk to enter building after parking up.

No dedicated bike space either.
On the other hand am simply digging my heels in because of the way it all started, should i do it simply out of being polite, what if she kicks it higher and the boss gets involved and most importantly to me the risk of the wench sending her cronies to knock it over.
So bike gurus of BCF what do I do?

Just keep putting it in a normal bay, you've as much right to be there if they won't make an area for motorcycles!

My school is like this, except they have the cheek to ask me to PUSH the bike across the car park instead of riding it. Might be easy enough for the scooter kids to do that but try pushing the ZXR all that way. At least they do have an area for motorbikes, even if I do think they should put a camera there...

Edit: Does anyone else at work have a bike? If you put two in one bay it might keep them happier.

I'd rather leave it away from a car space myself, you have as much right, but its prime for someone to hit and say they never saw it, and also the closer the door you go the less you have to walk.

Private property so none of this is relevant.

I would say that taking up a whole bay is a little selfish. I do it only when there really is no other option. This may apply here, but is there no little cubby hole you can stash it? How full is the cycle bay? Its where I put my bike when I take it to work (no, not just the pushbike).

I would try and explain the issues with parking it round the back, and try to come to some arrangement where you could put it - there may be some little used path you could stick it, where it will be all nice and safe Very Happy

You pay road tax, in town centers you cant park on the pavement and have to buy a parking ticket.
Use the space like i did to piss my boss off even more, She was a jumped up female dog too.
Beat her to it and go to your boss about your concerns, he/she might side with you, after all its your mode of transport and just because everyone else get to work 30mins earlier cos they have to sit in the traffic is their choice and they feel like you should share the stress they do. (jelousy)
Hope you sort it mate. Thumbs Up

The boss might even create a bike part to keep you both happy. Why not ask the boss for one?

I tend to try and not take up a whole space if I know it is busy car park, there are always small area's that a car can't use but you can.

I would simply say that until the company makes proper provisions for motorcycle parking I will continue to use the car park, have a nice day.

Councils are required by law to provide bike parking, and in 99% of cases this is free, you should check into that.

As for the case in question, why not park it inside the warehouse Wink

One question what is wrong with the cycle parking?

Most days I park in the bike shed at work with no problems at all.

Perhaps its too small I don't know.

There's not many good things about my job, but motorcycle parking
is A1, have a bike shed and a warehouse. Plus a hose for cleaning
the salt off every day.

You have as much right as her to park there. You are doing no wrong and if she persists in her discrimination against you then seriously consider putting in a formal complaint against her on the grounds of her discrimination. If your employer has an equal opportunities policy in place, they will have no choice but to investigate the matter, which should piss her off good and proper.

Do you know where i can find this law, looking at the department of transport doesn't help. As when they revamped the oneway system where i lived and changed the central town square they removed the motorbike parking area. leaving nowhere to park.

Why should one need to try to explain?
Does the bitch (Who has never had a Tit punch or her Garry done) ever need explaining by anyone who uses the spaces for their cars?

I'm going to reiterate what has already been said- Take a run up and kick her back door in.

You made the clear point there, that it might only be you coming in on the bike, but there are many cars with only one person arriving also.

It's all in her head.

Tell her to get up half an hour earlier then she'll have plenty of choice and won't be fooled into thinking she's just grabbed the one last parking space only to find it's taken by a bike.

She probably does the same thing with soft-tops and smart cars.

We used to park behind the main street next to the big multistory car park to lock the bikes to the big bars on the building, then they slammed down on this and issued parking fines without warning. The pavement is huge, and it seems a bit dickless to not let us part there as its extremely conveinient. There is bike locks, but i have to pay for a ticket then pay to use the lock, I'd get a rally going to complain to the council but i can see people just complaining and not taking action all ready.

At our place they've just put a little chain area between posts around two car park spaces for bikes. Didn't cost a lot, maybe you should just ask for something like that. Thumbs Up

I was just saying that the issues with parking round the back should be explained to the lady - since she may have not considered these. Explaining your problems, and getting the person to empathise with you is a major step in a happy resolution.

If she dismisses these as irrelevant, then take it to the next level up - I'm sure there are many levels above a receptionist. You should find a reasonable person at some point.

Being hard headed about it is no way to achieve a good result. Facing the issue head on, but with a calm and open attitude will always be the best way to go.

Why are people like this allowed out in public?
She has no right to tell you where to park and the company has an obligation to provide you with a safe area to leave your vehicle 4 or 2 wheels.
I had a similar problem in my last job where i was asked to park around back.
Simply told them i would as long as they signed a waiver to pay for any and all damage caused by delivery drivers / nails / vandalism etc.
Soon gave up hassling me.
