PostPosted: 16:51 - 18 Feb 2008    Post subject: Landlord being a tit - Bedroom Door Keys Reply with quote

Hi guys,

Everyone in my (shared) house has door keys to their room (The kind where you have the door handle on a plate)

Apart from me, the landlord said I couldn't have a key to my room as he had lost them!

Is there a way of buying another lock for the door and changing it over easily? Or would it be easy to recover the key shape from the lock and get a new one cut? Anything as cheap as possible with little modification, I'd like to recover the pattern for the original key if possible.

The handle is like this:

Take off the handle, remove the spindle. Take out the screws from the edge side of the dooe lock and remove.
Go to b&q and get one the same.

Should be 2 minutes to take off.

open your door, there should be 2 or 3 screws holding the lock in place down the edge. Unscrew, yank out the lock, take it down to your local B&Q get one same size and refit.

Nice, thanks.

BTW - He hasn't lost the key, he just doesn't want to give me one, he fucked me around with my ground anchor as well. (Asked me if I wanted an anchor fitting, and then said I'd better hurry as the builders were coming tomorrow, spent £80 on a Torc to get delivered next day, then he told me I couldn't have it fitted... then 2 months later asks me "Why I didn't tell the builders where to put the anchor when they came".

As above, rip the bugger out.

Once you've worked out how to change one, swap the rest around in the house!

i have to say, i lived in liverpool for 4 years, and their capacity for casual theft is quite amazing.

One time, I got off my mountain bike, leant it against the wall long enough to get my key out to open the door, 10 seconds max, and in that time some little scally had made off with it and was on it going up the street. Neighbours saw and gave chase in their car but didnt catch the little bugger.

So basically someone stole something from right under your nose and now you think a whole city is a shithole?

no I had lots of things stolen from me that was just one example

i didnt say the city was a shit hole just that scousers are more prone to opportunist theft than anywhere else i have spent any time

i think its because so many people used to work on the docks where is was almost expected that you would steal some of whatever was being shipped in or out

arguably liverpool is a shit hole but thats a slightly different subject

and thats more of a matter of opinion anyway, some people like falling down derelict buildings and roofs patched with corrugated iron and that whole beirut look that some areas of liverpool have

So as I am from Liverpool, perhaps I had better stay away from everyone so I won't be tempted to steal from you Twisted Evil

You can't generalise on things like that, there are petty thieves in every town or city.

Colin you could be describing areas of virtually every large town and city in England. A lot of money has been spent smartening Liverpool up (admittedly most of it in the city centre), it's hardly a shithole.

Leave Col alone.

I've never even BEEN to Liverpool and even I know it has has a reputation for being full of thieving scum who hate being criticised.

I know that cos my friend Grav told me its true, and he should know cos he's a scouser!

Some types of people simply have a mentality that if its not glued down you can take it*. A guy I know is like that: he brings us "little gifts" which he collects from other peoples' houses. It makes me kind of reluctant to let him come visit me, and I always look around the place after he's been to see if something goes missing. So far it hasn't.

I'd go with what everyone else says, Tobes, and change the "barrell" (?) It would be polite to tell the landlord, and offer a spare one to him. But you may not be in the mood to do that Mr. Green

*And even then, often when it IS glued down Rolling Eyes

So how come where ever you go you always bump into scousers, are they like the Irish in that there's more living away from home than there are back home? Confused

Yep, the place has a terrible reputation because a few thieving gits spoil it for the majority of decent folks who just want a quiet life.

Scousers are everywhere, but there are millions of plastic scousers whose only affinity with the city is that their grandparents where born there.

If you want to visit the capital city of petty theft, go to Nottingham. It's far worse statistically yet hardly gets a mention. Even manchester is worse than Liverpool for scallies.
