hi,
PHK6 who i ride with uses a SV1000s,
he seems to like it.
he is changing the forks to gsxr USD's and put a gsxr rear shock on.
it doesnt struggle to keep up with 600's and mainly 750's.
and its loud at full bore, even louder then my TLR.
best bet is il get him to post on here.

Cheers mate Thumbs Up
At the moment ive been looking at big twins - im quite a lazy rider and sometimes i just like to use one or two gears anduse the torque - of which my 600 doesnt have a lot of.

I've got a 2004 SV1000S K4 and absolutely love it. The engine and gearbox really are excellent, it handles pretty good as standard and sounds fantastic with it's Fuel end cans. Finish and build quality is not the best, but for the money I am extremely satisfied with it. You get a lot of bike for your money.
Thumbs Up

yea i ride a 2003 sv1000s the standard suspension did not suit my style (its abit soft), and fitting the power commander made a hell of a differance.

will own 600's all over the shop unless the 6 is ridden by god....or rossi, a gsxr 750 might have me on top end, the 1000's will leave me after 130-140.

great bike, just needs a better top speed, fastest ive seen is 167 mph on the clocks.

its reliable, just make sure you fill up when the petrol light flashes or u might end up pushing it home > not good

also the brakes are mint, fit braided lines for better feel and use dot 4 fluid, unless its middle of summer then stick dot 5.1 in there.

the clutch is lite and has excelent feel ( good for helping you work your way round 20 and 30 zones)

if you want to make the most of the bike take it all the way to the 11k redline, or if your not ina rush keep it in 4th and 5th and use it low down grunt which it aint short of, it doesnt seam to like clutchless shifts so i dont bother.

oh dont bother with racing starts youll only end up on the back wheel, just drop the clutch and wind it on

standard chain and sprockets last ages, bridgestone bt 014's work excelent on the bike but youll need a new rear at around 2000 miles.

oh and it sounds like death honking down the road at full chat with the straight thru cans and the modded air box Twisted Evil

noooooooooooo Shocked

you needs a big single Cool

if you can get along with a trailie/supermoto then get a xl600lmf, dave used to have one, great tools and has a good way of making you smile in that it has 2 carbs, a small one for under half throttle effectivley and a big fucker for when you open it up.

im not too sure of the logistics of it but when he rolled over the halfway my god that thing took off Very Happy and a load of torque to boot aswell.

Cheers
John

p.s. if you do get one, i want to see you backing it into roundabouts

Laughing

:

will own them in midrange and comfort
thats about all i can think of if you are talking current 600s
similar in a straight but the 600 will have a higher true top speed
the 600 will murder it in corners and on the brakes
gsxr750 more than might have it on top end, its all around faster than a ducati 999 and rsv mille, so an sv shouldnt pose much threat

john i just cant get on with trailies, i could have one as a second bike though.
I think im going to get a test ride on an sv1000 just to see if i like it, im also going to try a speed triple too, they are supposed to be quite torquey Thumbs Up

sorry but i disagree.
when ridden well this will leave 600's easily.
i leave my friends gsxr750 quickly, i know its a TL but basicly the same lump upto 140mph. i agree brakes on newer bikes are better but who compares braking distances when looking at bikes, i think PB did an artical on stopping distances and some guy stopped a top end sportsbike in 3foot of the stopping distance of a shitter.
but thats all rider orientated, stat's wise yes a gsxr750 will win most 1000cc Twins.
but for the question asked the bike is comfortable, you can be lazy in the gears as the torque is high in low end.

I take it you are referring to an older GSXR750?

As I test rode an SP2, and old and new RSV's and my 04 750 would murder them all once going.

SVThou murder a sports 6 on a straight - thats a load of bollocks - reason i know - it's been done - guy at lufbra uni on a CBR6F-S 03 - other guy 03 SV1000. The thou pulled away but the 6 soon caught up! Their suspension is woeful! I went around the outside of my mate in the wet on my ZXR250 hence why i got my banzai kamikazi status at uni - their engines are watered down from the TLthou, but all in all still a good bike but doesn't have a top drawer feel to it according to my mate geoff. for a then 3 year old bike, it was already showing signs of corrosion and furring and he wasn't happy with the front end feel.

They're not bad bikes, but pretty budget for a 1000cc in my opinion. When I had to take a bike from work to go somewhere or run an errand I'd usually take an SV1000 over the 650s, bandits, CBFs CBR600s etc, so it can't be all that bad. I think personally i'd probably go fr TL1000R over one though if I was to buy a TL engined bike.

I have a 2005 model.

It's a budget 1000cc V-twin, but the money's been saved on things that can be changed. The engine is all about mid-range rather than top-end, and is all the better for it on-road. Fueling is really good with any jerkiness coming from the fact it's got fewer cylinders. Revs smartly to 11K, which is impressive for a V-twin imo.

Performance on-road is roughly 600cc sports, but with less effort on the rider's part. It'd be OK on a trackday, but feels a bit long and ponderous compared to a true sportsbike. The brakes are ~Y2k GSXR750, so are excellent for a bike at this price-level. Gearbox is Suzuki-smooth. It's very reliable, and ownership costs are reasonable.

The tank-range is only so-so, and the reserve runs out rather quicker than my 600SRAD! It's not the lightest thing to push! Reserve light comes on between 100-120 miles - i.e. mid to high 30's mpg.

The main weakness is the budget suspension - it's the main place they saved money. It's harsh and uncontrolled. It can be tweaked to make it easier to live with as it's adjustable, but requires some real work to really make it supple and well-damped. Takes 600cc size rubber, so the world is your oyster there.

The only reliability quirk is the clutch slave-cylinder which can leak. It does so gradually, rather than failing suddenly. Some early bikes had crank problems, so buy 2004->. Seat is not the most comfortable, and the mirrors are poor for an all-rounder. Both can be fixed. Lights are good (both come one) and clocks are like Ducati 999 if you squint. The rear mudguard is ugly so tail-tidies are common, but prepare for a muddy back-end if you do. It's a Suzuki, so you know the drill re. the finish.

2005 models with the black frame have some updated engine internals for ~5bhp increase. This gives them similar power to the last TL-S, with the muted power delivery. The SZ model is the same with the optional sidepanels in a blue/white GSXR paintjob.

One of the mags (Bike or Ride) just did a feature (compared it to Triumph Sprint RS) which gave a realistic appraisal. Very very good value used, and a good buy if you are happy tweaking it to how you will want it.

April's issue of RiDE does a 3-4 page review of the SV1000 vs Sprint it comes out pretty well but, they reckon you have to get the suspension right for you, and the seat is shite (apparently), lovely engine though. Mr. Green

your mate must not be much use then, the k4 on gsxr 750 has over 120bhp at the wheel and has a great raod biased chassis whereas the tl is renowned for its terrible standard suspension set up
sure the average pleb might find the sv faster than a 600 but thats only because they havent a notion how to use the 600 Razz
the 600s post the same if not faster in some cases quarter mile and have a higher top speed, and even comparing the handling capability is silly
it is easier to go quick on, but also gets out of shape easier too
bit of a trade off
i like the sv1000, does what it does well, but saying it will easily leave a 600 is completely stupid!
