Ok, brought my new bike home on Saturday (BMW F650GS), its awsome and I love it and its awsome! Very Happy

Just something I've noticed, and I have heard this mentioned before, it seems to be much easier to stall this bike, like at very slow speeds or when I'm stationary. Is it harder for larger bikes just to idle?

To my knowledge it should be easier to ride off on a large capacity as it's got more pull at idling speed. When I tried the GSXR 600 it could get up to sort of 4-5 mph on just clutch, and the bike I did my test on (Honda CBF 250) was perfectly rideable with only clutch, in fact I didn't accelerate a single time during my closed circuit test

Is it stalling while out of gear when the engine is warm? If so then you may need to turn up the idle speed slighty.

You should be able to ride off on tickover on a 650 single, either your idle speed is too low as said, or your letting the clutch out to fast.

You didn't get it off a dodgy looking chap in Milton Keynes by any chance did you? Wink

Seriously though, the F650 can quite happily stall on its own, let alone having some-one.

First thing I'd try is make sure the battery terminals are screwed on tight, as I had a load of stalling problems with mine when I screwed them on well enough to make contact, but not hard enough!

The battery's just under the middle panel of the faux-tank (you don't need to unscrew both the left and right panels, https://faq.f650.com/GSFAQs/Fairing_FAQ_GS.htm)

It will tell you in the hand book what the idle speed should be
Take it for a few miles spin to get it to normal running temp and see what the idle speed is at when stopped in neutral, clutch out

if it is too low then like was said turn up the idle speed, which again instructions for that is in the manual for the bike.

You sure it just isnt the biting point that is a lot higher in the clutch travel than your previous bike(s)? may be that you arent putting the revs on before the clutch is out, so stalling it.

Have found the fault, went to take it out for a spin to see what it is like in the wet. As soon as i fired her up, i noticed when i turned the bars the electrics cut out. Found the loose connection, seems to be a connector 4/5 inches down from the centre of the bars.

nah i dont think it was anything like that. the clocks were replaced so im wondering if that had anything to do with it. anyway, calling dealer tomorrow as the bikes unridable in its current state.

*** UPDATE - brother called dealer today as i was at work from 6am, he called at about 12 and described the problem, bike was picked up at about 1.45 and is now being looked at...***
