I'm after a bandit 400 starter motor - second hand. Does anyone know if it shares the part with any of the other bandits?

Looking at pictures they look similar if not the same, but I don't know.

Thanks

Uses a GSXR400 engine so presumably one off those would fit, depending on year probably the GK76a, don't know if the engine changed much over the years.

Starter motors aren't vastly different so it could well be the same as one off lots of Suzukis, the only way to tell would be to check part numbers.

Thanks for the offer Chris, but I've decided I'm not going to get one until I've got my new bike. I don't want to spend any more money on this heap unless the starter actually completely stops working. When I've got my new bike I won't be so bothered, it's just I'm trying to save right now.

For the moment though, If anyone could still tell me if the bandit starters are the same that would be great - just so I know what to do when I eventually get one.

I've tried everything mate. I'm not sure what you mean by mk1 or mk, but it's a 1993 gsf400vp.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Have you had the generator cover off? Sometimes the starter gear can jam or become dislodged which causes it to lockup.

The reason I want to replace the starter is because I have a fault where everytime I start the bike from cold the starter sticks for a few tries before it finally frees up.

I've had a new battery and even had the starter off and apart, and it seems fine. I'm thinking it may be week when under load, so wanted to try another one. Bandit 400 on bandit spares are £47 but I can get one off ebay for a 600 or 1200 for around £25 with postage.

All connections have also been checked and everything else I can think of.

I've been told it most likely isn't the starter clutch as they tend to slip before they stick.

Cheers.

Do you think the relay could be the problem?

The relay WORKS, i didn't think it was able to jam or not deliver enough current at certain times.

Just bypass the relay to make sure, thought usually a relay either works or doesn't work, not usually an inbetween. I doubt it is the relay, battery, poor connection or starter motor most likely.

I thought this too. I've bypassed it with a screwdriver before, and it still continued to jam.

Battery's good. Connections are good as far as I can tell.
