I've decided to get a few insurance quotes for the CB500 which I've pretty much set my heart on once I pass my test (it's comfy, reliable, reasonably quick, and it's a Honda).

I've filled my details in pretending I've got a full license but with all other details correct (one crash two years ago in a car, etc, etc). I've also not declared the theft of my C90, my reasoning being that as I've not actually made a claim for it it shouldn't affect anything.

So far the best quote I've got has been £430 TPO, £560 TPFT, and ~£950 Fully Comp.

This does seem a little expensive when the insurance for my little Honda C90 was only around £100!

Is it a high insurance group or something? Am I just going to the wrong insurers?

Or are these prices normal?

It's going to be a major setback having to fork out £560 for the insurance, as I want to pay it all as one lump sum.

Cheers.

Im coming up for 19 and the lowest quote iv'e had for a 600 bandit was £745 tpft so if you are a similar age then those quotes are probably about right.

I'm 19 too (20 in May) but I would have thought being a (relatively) slow 500 and with a few years car driving experience too it'd be less than that. May have to look at a 250 instead.

Or just bite the bullet and pay it.

Damn.

Cheers.

Its pretty normal to have to pay lots for your first lot of insurance, heh if you think that's high ask what Tim's insurance is, that said he does ride a grp 16 bike.

its a grp 9/10 bike , and a CB500 is capable of alot more than people think 58bhp will take you to about 120,, hell there was even a racing series of CB500,

The only things which let it down are the (comparatively) poor brakes, soft suspension and on the CB not the CBF has split rear springs instead of a monoshock.

That does seem a little high. I got quotes for an ER-5 and GS500 a little while back and it was about £300 TPO for both. I'd have thought the CB would be similar. Do you live in an area that's bad for thefts, etc?

Non-sporty 250s cost very little to insure - my CD250U is about £150 TPO.

Edit: I am 20, no NCB but no previous accidents.

Well his quote is loaded, he is young AND he lives in Blackburn (which is chav city) , so its pretty low,

Exeter isn't that chavvy, hell even the worst places in Plym ie Swilly aren't as bad as some of the good places in Manchester.

SV650s 07 plate, £550 TPFT, Excess cover + breakdown thrown in, Driveway, 1 claim, 19 1 NCB.

Try Express insurance and MCD as they seemed to be the cheapest for younger drivers.

I've got a CB500, it's my first bike and I'm 21, cost £288 TPFT from Carole Nash. I think you should shop around a bit! Having said that, it's garaged in quite a good area, I don't know how much difference that makes though.

Good luck!
