You want to find out if its approved by your insurers too...

If it is = Money off insurance! Hurrah!
If it isn't = No money off ins. Boo!

Not always. Depends what other approved security items you have. You only get a reduction to the Highest rated Thatcham approved security device. If the alarm has a lower rating than a ground anchor then you will get discount on just the ground anchor.

i got mine from there, was a doddle to fit, they send you a wiring diagram if you tell them which bike it is. the remote start thing works fine but to be honest after a couple of weeks the novelty wears off as there is no real purpose for it, just a cool trick to show your mates down the pub

i have that alarm, bought from them, the wiring diagrams are very very poor - and the instructions worse. for example, it tells you to fit the alarm blah blah ..then remove the alarm to test it - if you remove the alarm ofcourse it wont work!!
the voice is so crap it is funny - and i have left mine on, but can get annoying sometimes. the remote start is cool, i use it when walking up to my bike at biker cafes or when people work past - scares shit into them Smile also cool at petrol stations. dont be tempted to ride without the key though - just incase.
my bike, zzr600, has an anti hotwire system bult in as standard so that has caused some problems - but after getting the alarm to by-pass that it works ok but i dont yet have the immoboliser on just incase something goes wrong - as this style alarm is actually out-lawed due to saftey issues.
the seller of the alarm system is also the designer of it and hence the poor design and instructions. it is not completly waterproof so make sure your bike is - and it is very sensitive (boy racer cars driving past will trigger it on my bike) this cant be turned down unless you cut the sensitivity cable - then it may not be sensitive enough and you have to solder it back together
the pagers are very good though and the microwave bubble thing is cool.

overall - good alarm, i wouldnt attempt to fit it myself and i got someone to do it for me - the instructions made it hard for the guy as they are so poor and cost me more by paying labour costs.
you will probably want to get a battery charger too as it will flatten your battery in no time if you dont.

I am not sure but I think for insurance purposes it has to be a dealer fit. Has to arm automaticlly and cost £200 squid.

Thatchams are the folk to ask. They can advise.

Or ask your insurers who will save you hassle.

They are worth it only coz you make you bike less attractive to villians. NOT unstealable.. Just not as attractive as one without any alarm.

But in reality.. When folk will ignore someone getting a kicking in the street Whos will care if your bike alarm sounds?

But silly to leave it completely bare. If it gets nicked you may feel you could have fitted at least something..Sad

Waste of money unless the cost can be covered by insurance discount,Carole Nash used to discount buying/fitting,if a thief wants your bike he'll take it-fact.Invest in a decent lock/chain/ground anchor.Only problem I have had with modern bikes ie starting is with fitted alarm/imobilisers

Theres a £20 version that would be just as useful. Very easy to wire up and, likewise very easy to disable. The remote start and ignition sensing is easy to wire up on a large number of bikes without touching the ignition switch or cutting into the loom. It usually takes me longer to work out where to put the unit and speakers than it does to wire up.

All of these alarms are made in the same place, despite them 'designing' the alarm. Everyone, whether it cost £10 or £100 has the same colour wiring and the same basic wiring diagram.

You can change the sensitivity using the remote.

Oldest one I have is coming up to two years, the old design with two additional relays. Never had a problem.

I've fitted the basic one, without the immobilizer connected as im a biff at wires.

Id like to think that it keeps the chav scum away from it Wink

I wired up the bike with the remote start and that's when the problems started Shocked. It must have been a dodgy relay which had caused excessive current draw eventually causing me to fry 2 batteries! Shocked. Removed the whole alarm and it was fine! I'll install again since it's cheap, makes a loud noise and was relatively easy to fit (for the basic alarm) - it's just the two wires and splice the indicator cables. Don't bother immobilising it though.. the less wires you use, the less problematic it becomes- i often think it's unnecessary since i always use a disk lock in most instances.

I had one of them alarms off the site on my first bike.

I wont go into the nitty gritty of it, but be VERY carefull with the fitting of it, As i found a way to start the bike BYPASSING the alarm.. EVEN WHEN THE BIKE ISNT ON!

Sounds farfetched, but Belive me, it happens.

*please note, i will not divulge to anybody how to do this*

They don't prevent your bike getting stolen, your average tealeaf will be able to still lift the bike into a van, alarmed or not. The discount you get on your insurance is small and they cause all sorts of electricial problems, from flat batteries to missfiring and just not allowing the owner to start the bike; well that's my experience of them, an utter waste of money.

Spend the money on a decent lock, they will think twice if they've got to go armed with a petrol angle grinder to get the lock off...but even then it doesn't put off the most determined crims.
