Right ive taken off the whole of my exhaust system off my NC30 and removed the front downpipes from the system. Ive noticed theres some melted wirey type stuff in there. Checked the microfiche and it has it down as "packing, muffler" see part number 11 in the diagram. Is this just a gasket? or something else. Is it reusable?

It'll be basically a fat, malleable gasket. Whether or not you can re-use it depends on the state it's in. "Melted" doesn't sound promising Smile

Haha cheers, i forgot i posted this in help.

Yeah its pretty melted, ive just ordered a couple replacement they aint cheap i tell you.

The gasket on the monkey's exhaust sounded like something similar. Does it look like a slinky if pulled a part?

The replacement gasket was more like a large copper washer.

Nah i started picking at it and it crumbled, underneath was like wire wool, took me ages to scrape it out. Its a type of gasket apparently. Cheers anyway Thumbs Up

yep, its like wire wool but thicker and shaped around the exhaust fitting.

Had you got a screwdriver under it you could have loosened it and slid it off, shouldnt take more than a couple of minutes!

Apparently should be replaced every 18 months or so....

why? , every time you change your exhaust you should change them since they fall apart but why would you need to change them on an 18 month basis? .

ie its not a moving part , its not a particularly stressed part and it only falls apart when you try to remove it, as the pressure from the pipes resting against it and or the clamps hold it together and seeing as the '30 has stainless as std it will very rarely need replacement.
