As the forum seems to run slowly, because it is so popular, i am surprised that auto pruning isn't enabled. It would help speed up load times by deleting posts and saving space on the forum.

The only problem that i would delete threads that have not been posted in for 2 week, or what ever you set it up for. (timescale).

Only a suggestion that could help speed up loading times.

Auto-pruning is set up, I believe.
However, it's more around non-bike related stuff, thankfully.
I personally really like the fact I can go back and find some info where someone offered advice a couple of years ago.

The speed issue is currently being looked into, as such.

Some Non-bike chat stuff has not been posted in in over a year, which probably not relevant any more, so suspect that decent auto-pruning isn't being used.

Weren't really a complain more of suggestion. Wink

Wouldn't such a feature be subject to views, therefore if it got viewed it would stay, and if it hadn't you wouldn't know about it because it hadn't been viewed and subsequently taken away?

Always thought it was based on posts. When i ran a forum, i had it on if no-one had posted in 2 weeks in a thread, then i would get deleted to save space. Maybe worth having a look at with recent complaints of slow speed.

I disagree, you look at the number of times a usefull thread has been brought back to help someone out.

Auto-pruning of attachments would be better me thinks. Only a week or two grace before deleting massive files (songs/videos etc) as theres no limit at the moment.

As said though, losing old posts is a bit depressing.

Big attachments are only going to be using bandwidth if lots of people are still downloading - and should use very little processor; though obviously will be getting storage churning a bit.

how about a page where people can donate by paypal to the cost of a new server, with a running total ?-

Im assuming that its the kind of thing you can buy a new bit of kit to speed things up

Id contribute, as I have had years of entertainment out of this site, and im sure others would too, especially if it would help it run a bit faster.

Likewise, there are few things i donate to, Hammersnipe was one as it saved me so much money, and this would be another I wouldn't mind chucking a tenner at.

That said I believe it's been suggested numerous times, but I think legalities come into play at some point which make it untenable.

i dont see how legalities could stop someone giving someone else money

there was a collection for someone to get a new bike when he trashed it, so i dont seen why there shdnt be a collection for korn to get a new server

having an automated paypal page would just make it more convenient, but as paypal payments can just be done by email, we would just need korn to set up an email address for the purpose, and we would give a bit to that using our paypal accounts

someone could then post a running total somewhere , as to how far its going towards the server

to be honest i dont think it wd be the end of the world if he spent the money on beer and fags instead, as i've enjoyed bcf, but it wd be nice to have a faster web site

i think the guy who some bcf members bought a bike for, sold it as he wasnt ready to ride it, which amounts to the same thing

True, but often people do not want the percieved responsibility of correct use of donated money.

Had i been in Andy C's position id of been elated of course, but some what uncomfortable with the gift.

Same with Korn i suppose, maybe he doesn't want the worry that people will think its just a beer fund. Maybe someone will no a more secured way of doing it with all funds withdrawn labelled against receipt/item.

I dunno, but i've had this recently when i've very kindly had... ahem.... substances sent to me. Whilst we both trust each other, and it was very kind, i felt like i wanted proof to /stop/ any bad blood should things go wrong. Human nature to expect the worst.
