Hi

Seems that having Ken screw up London traffic, the Olympics are going to do it even more.

https://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/london_2012/article3492521.ece

They are demanding a fleet of 3000 chauffeur driven cars for the big wigs, and for them to have traffic priority.

All the best

Keith

How about a go-slow in these dedicated lanes?!

I must be going nuts. Every time I read one of these stories I see the class divide being rammed down out throats.

The Olympics should be showing everything that is good about humanity but the way the Capitalism is the accepted format of World.Inc just makes you realise how fucked up it is.

People are only ever people, it's hard to believe that so few people have so much control over so many. It seems I'm rambling, I know, but the thought of people being more highly regarded than others in this way makes me unhappy. I've got nothing against people making an honest living, but this lark... all this bullshit, all these parasites that are richer FROM US than we'll ever be.

I hope the Olympics goes tits up, when I was down South, I didn't know anyone who was in favour of it, but guess what... we gots it, and we should all be happy about that because Seb Coe says so. Well, Seb, stick it up your cock, the only reason it's here is so as the fat get fatter.

On a happier note, there will be a legacy of sporting venues and other facillities. Cracking. But all of these will benefit Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans that live in the East End. So what does the working white man see out of all this? Fuck all, he'll be watching the Olympics on the telly and even though he's already paid for the fucking thing he'll be unable to afford tickets or get there due to shit public transport and a load of cunts in limos huffing and puffing and being terribly important and hogging up the roads, which he has also paid for.

I think that's enough for now.

This is going to get so abused!
Either like bazza said, nails in the special lanes.
People just covering their numberplates and going for a ride
People dumping stuff in the lanes to block them off.

It's an absolute ridiculous thing and Harold has it perfect. Post that rant on some newspaper websites comment sections and get some good discussion going on it.

What a ridiculous idea. So.. another round of 'bus lanes' but for private cars, where there already isnt room for the current bus lanes (or the buses themselves for that matter).

Thank god London is such a free for all on traffic, I will certainly be doing my bit to get as much in the way as possible, and nobody can touch you for it.

Nobody I know is in favour of the olympics, I therefore deduce that we never wanted them, and like everything else a select few decided that it should go ahead anyway. Well, the select few can go ahead and get on with it, why should it affect everyone elses daily life.

How sports can ever been deemed so important in the modern world, just boggles the mind. I still feel ill at the images of all the people jumping around in mindless elation when London got declared the venue, makes you want to be sick.

Let them use the black cabs like everyone else, no amount of dedicated lanes crap is going to get you across London quicker than a cabby who knows how to get places, and oh look, a full London black cab network is already in place with access to bus lanes, how convenient, why not use it you pricks, instead of wasting our time and money.

Does anybody REALLY think a sponsor will provide 3000 cars? So lets see, 3000 chauffeur-driven cars at a VERY cut rate of £300 per car a day for 2 months ( lets say 30 days in a month ) is £54,000,000 and that assumes they are only needed during office hours. I doubt there are 3000 chauffeur-driven cars available in Central London so drivers will need to be pulled in from surrounding areas pushing the price up further due to accomodation and parking costs. So again, who REALLY thinks a sponsor will pay for all those cars?

Oi ... I live in the East End!

Fortunately there is already a sports centre with (I'm told) a swimming pool about 5 minutes walk from my house, although they aren't using that for the olympics ... so any extra sports facilities between Stratford and my place will be a bonus, but unlikely to be facilitated by me.

I am mildly annoyed that it will probably mean my road will be inaccessible, as I am quite close to the Excel Centre where the weightlifting, wrestling, boxing and judo etc will be.

But if, as an offshoot of the resultant Be Nice To East London People scheme, it means I get free tickets to those particular events, then I don't think I will be moaning too much ... despite the fact that I will probably need some sort of "Official Honorary East Ender" special pass to get into my own fukkin street, without being frisked in the mistaken impression that I am a terrorist.

Although hopefully I will have managed to move back to my PROPER West London "manor" by then Laughing

Maybe a flash of my leg whilst I am being frisked for being "inappropriately dressed" in full burkha.

Well I am.
I think its great, even if it is costing us a fortune.

I think its a privilege and a reason for English (not just London) people to feel good about encouraging the re-instigation of decent social and personal values.

Blah blah, what am I going on about?

I dunno, despite the cost and the "everythings going to be late" mentality, and the "what a lot of hassle for nothing", I have some old fashioned thing about what a great thing it is. Even if it means we get to wave lots more little Union Jacks around the place, or even just to moan about African immigrants having them on their cars like we did during the football last year.

I think a lot of the moaning going on about it is media-fuelled, yes there's bound to be graft and corruption and too much hype ... but I see no reason why we should not feel pleased and patriotic about the fact that we (have got stuck with it Laughing )

London is a world class city, despite what we all think, those of us who live in the middle of it have a love/hate thing with the damn place, and those who don't are feeling left out.

So if it all comes off, if it all works well and things go reasonably smoothly, and even if there is a terrorist incident and its a total abortion, it will give us all something to say "I was in London/the UK when that great/rubbish/horrific Olympics was on".

Christ, people need to relearn the art of pride.
Lack of it is what has got the country into the mess it is.

Or, erm, something.

/oldfashioned mode

Although do feel free to refer me to these remarks when I start posting "Frickin Olympics!" posts later on, closer to the time Rolling Eyes

Perhaps old boy you would be willing to put a low bid in and then hike it by say 250000% , which is normal for government contracts.

Sort of like virgin taxis,

Wouldn't surprise me if the contractors behind, say, the Millennium Dome said they'd build it in return for a few tinnies!

The construction industry is currently loving the Olympics. In short, it's open season on the government coffers (basically our money is being spent much more quickly) and I'd wager little is being done to regulate wasted cash.

A lot of the Thames gateway developments hinged on the Olympic bid being successful. A *heck* of a lot of cash has been pumped into prospective regeneration work in the last five or so years. Did we really think they'd let this corporate honeypot go to waste?
