Does the fully faired 04 SV1000 have stainless pipes as stock? , I had the morning off and went out to have a go on one, and its pipes felt all rough and rusted sort of like mild steel pipes.

The shop owner said it was stainless I didn't believe him but I also didn't have a magnet on me.

As I've got stainless on the NTV and CBR and the worst corrosion they have is going a brassy colour.

Having recently replaced pipes its an experience I don't want to try again.

Any thoughts?

Ta

(SV1000 might be a decent play thing).

They should have stainless pipes but the quality is very poor hence the rusting, same goes for the 650s, shame really...

My VFR pipes are stainless steel and they rust, you get get different grades of SS, the OEM ones are quite poor, hence the rust.

Why do you think Sheffield Steel had such a good reputation, until we sold the entire industry down the river...

SS is only as good as the amount of ferrite that's been processed out of it.

Well one way to check is that stainless steel will not induce magnetism - hence the magnet... lot of people don't know that and it catches them out. Also depends on the alloying composition. Stainless steel should be iron, carbon, manganese and chromium as its main alloying components of which the composition varies depending on the application. OEM pipes will probably be made by the cheapest supplier - but IIRC, my mate's 03 SV1000S DID have stainless pipes as standard.
