Hi as most of you know i have bought a brand new scooter and love it but i also want a second hand scooter aswell there is one in the local paper a 50 Vespa in black about 1 year old 500 euros i am very intrested and have arranged to meet but there is somethings i want to know like how could i tell if the engine is on the way out ? ? ? would it smoke loads ? ?
& what else should i look out for ? ?

Its a 2 stroke,
and im not sure if your like this but all the people i know who have mopeds are always the ones who buy the shitty 2stroke, that costs like 4 pound a litre.

So it cokes up alot, and smokes more than it would on castrol 2t.

You'll know when you take it for a test drive if somethings on the way out, might be worth, while taking it for a test, In a car park or whatever, take your lid off for some slow speed manoveures, as you should be able to hear any horrific noises from the engine that your unlikely to with your lid on, (Although i dont reccommend this, as its highly dangerious even on a vespa Laughing )

they are generally good engines, but like everything, from the day its built onwards, its on its way out Very Happy especially true of smokeys,
and if its been derestricted then that would be a dead give away that its closer to its natural end Very Happy
mind you a rebuild is hardly going to break the bank Thumbs Up

my dad has a 2002 plate vespa that he uses to get to and from the train station everyday and he has had no probs with it. Thumbs Up
