Hi all.

Well been hunting around for a few months now for my first bike with a car crash and other such monetry commitments getting in the way Exclamation

Finally got myself sorted and bought myself this badger:

Go me!

Haven't got her back to mine yet but got a bloke and a trailer who's volunteered to do it for me as I don't have my test until the 31st March and can't make the seller hold onto it too long!

Can't wait to get my mits on it and start riding it!

I'll get some better pics up when I have her at my house.

No, I know about the problems with it slipping out but I took his word for it that it dosen't come out of any gear.

He isnt insured on it at the moment and it has no tax so couldn't go for a test ride

He did say that its a bit clunky going into 2nd but this is a problem with all 'Cats?

This happened with me, so TC beware!

Bought a Tcat in December, was waiting till I was 21 so could re-do my license and get rid of restriction in January, so spent a month and a half on tidying it up, replacing fairings etc, full respray, new stickers.

Passed my test and all was good, rode it for a week or so. Thenafter I started getting a bit more confident and going faster, I learnt the gearbox was f*cked!

Really annoying and wanted rid of it, so I was a bastard and sold it on to some bloke who had no license so couldn't test ride it either...


the lesson....

Be careful! Try and get someone with a full license to give it some beans somewhere and check it all out!

TBH, don't get it! Mine had a 'clunky going into second gear' problem. What this meant that when about 6,000 rpm, I COULD NOT get into 3rd gear, had to let evs drop, then go up to 3rd, was very frustrating.

I would only get one that is very smooth, any slight 'nastiness' with 2nd gear...keep away!

They can be sorted if you know a mechanic, ut's not hugely difficult, just lot's of hours labour!

Hmm. Well I've put a deposit down on it and sorted everything out with the guy so I'm not going back on my word now!

He'll certaintly know he's ripped off the wrong guy if it is bust!

But thanks very much for the heads up. I'll let you know how it runs when I get it

Hopefully you'll be alright, there's plenty around so there must be a fair amount still working. As soon as you get it, change oil and filter, and hopefully might make gearbox smoother.

It's nice and comfortable to ride, and definately a good buy for a first big bike, hope you enjoy it!

First thing I'm doing is getting rid of the horrible indicators and putting little ones on. Possibly a tail tidy as well, seen a couple with them on that make it look a lot sharper

Good thing about it is that it's all bog standard so it hasn't been razzed around any courses and never been dropped in 10 years!

Sorry to be a pain again, lol.

Indicators on the thundercat are not worth the trouble, the holes are the wrong size, both on the front and on the back to fit mini indicators. I spent many an angry evening fiddling around with these.

For the front you can get semi-flush indicators, which just stick on, and look alright.

For the back, saw off the plastic mudguard type thing and screw on a universal tail tidy and you can have whatever indicators you want on the back!

I got a cat, as far as 2nd gears concerned I believe it’s only a problem if poor shifting takes place over a period of time and wears a selector fork. Best advice, give it some beans in second gear and see if it slips… Thumbs Down . If one of your mates has a licence ask them.

Indicators wise, clear lenses on the standard stalks look good, the clear ones that stick on look clumsy IMO, as for mini or flush ones, I like other driver to clearly see my intentions when it come to turning.

Like the undertray, be interested to here how you get on fitting it.

I've got the Fazer 600 with the same engine but slightly de-tuned i think ...

I've got the same clunky 2nd, but been like it for near on 8 months now, sometimes it's fine, but sometimes just takes a bit more of a prod, just make sure you give it a good prod up each time and you should be fine.

It's an issue with all Cat's and Fazers with that engine, but there's plenty still going.

If it slips then yes don't get it, but if it doesn't slip and just needs a bit more force now and again, it should be fine ... FOR NOW Twisted Evil

When I got my cat I found that I was missing second a bit and thought it was on its way out. It takes a larger movement to go from 1st to second than the other gears.

Someone suggested rotating the the gear lever a bit further down so I wasn't stretching to hit the gear.

Worked a treat !! Never missed it since !!
