This has just been on the London news. It seems they can't make their minds up if bikes should be allowed in bus lanes or not. Personally I think they should be.

They have been allowed to use them in Bath and Bristol for 6 years or so now and it works very well. Not so sure it'd work so well in London as there a alot more buses there Confused

They have been talking about it for years, a study reckoned causulities invovling motobikes will be down by about 40% if we could. I do anyway and have been everyday since august last year, I have get to get any form of ticket or fine.

They know it reduces casualties, but they are reluctant to do it because it'll upset the cyclists and go against London's pro cycling image.

Transport for London, along with Ken Livingstone hushed up the report that stated the obveous, that it was safer for all concerned for us to be allowed to use bus lanes.

I am very very dissapointed with the cycling lobby, i always saw cyclists as kind of little cousins of ours, i used to cycle myself. But they can go fuck themselves...

I will put aside my feelings on Boris Johnson for mayor, yes hes a tory twat, but he says he will allow motorcycles in bus lanes. Safety before anything else for me, so he gets my vote, anything to get rid of that slimey Ken...

A lot of people here have been showing signs of concern about way the Country is going so maybe here's a way to start to make a difference.

There's a guy called Jake Willis, a biker with a lot of common sense trying to get elected as Lord Mayor of London. He's just an ordinary bloke like most of us here fed up with the direction things are going. He needs support from as many people as possible (you don't need to live in London!)

Please take time to read the message below which I have Jakes permission to post here.

Last Tuesday a friend pointed me in the direction of
www.londonelectsyou.co.uk, saying "You are always banging on
about doing something for bikers, well here is your chance!!"
I signed up on the site thinking if nothing else it would be a
bit of a laugh, the finishing date of April the 1st did not help
either, within two hours I had emails asking if I was serious
about running, I replied that I was and meant what I had said on
the site.

4 hours later I was running third, by Tuesday evening I was 2nd
and Wednesday I was top of the list.
This is a real chance to get a bikers voice heard, if not in national
government then at least local government, this is not an
opportunity we can afford to miss, although this is aimed at the
London Mayoral election, at present anyone can vote on the site,
you can even run yourself if you dont like what I have to say!
The person at the top of that list will (if eligible) receive
the £50K to run for Mayor of London, from then on it will be
only Londoners that can vote.

My manifesto can be read on the site so I will not waste your
time and repeat it all here, please read it though, especially
if you are a Londoner.

Bikers are not my only concern, the disappearance of local shops
and post offices is very disturbing, while some politicians
constantly say something needs to be done and nothing is.
Those of you who run a small business in London will understand
my concerns, I know too many people now, who are unable to
afford to run a business in London, this must not continue.

You need someone to look at ways to stop the slow erosion of
local employment and skills.

The Low emission Zone is just another tax on the working class,
it will kill the small business man who depends on deliveries in
London, it will ruin some courier and delivery companies and I
dont think thats fair.

The constant taxing of business, large and small will drive
companies away from London, there is a need to look again at how
they are being bleed to point of extinction by Mr Livingstone and
his colleagues.

I have very clear views on London and how its future is going,
at present Mr Livingstone seems intent on ruining small business
in the capital, he ignores advice like the report from the TFL
that recommends bus lanes be opened for Motorcyclists as this
would make it safer for not only bikers, but cyclists and
pedrestrians as well.

His arrogance is putting Londoners off him in their droves, I am
sure that what he believes he is doing is right, but it is not,
he has become so remote from real Londoners that he is not
listening to them any more.

You want a candidate that is pro rather than anti vehicle to run
for mayor and not only if you live in London, because it can set
precedent for the whole country!

Remember, to vote for me as a candidate you dont have to live in
London, "Why should I bother?" I hear you ask, because I did!
I took a chance to get in as a candidate, because I believe the
drivers/riders in this country are an easy target, it is because
we rarely fight back that the government does get away with it!
Also, what ever happens in London tends to happen elsewhere
later, so do not think you are safe in other counties.

If nothing else read what I have to say here
www.londonelectsyou.co.uk and spare me, Jake Willis,
a few minutes to pass the message on, if you agree with me.
If you want to spare me a bit more time then that
would be fantastic, I really do need all the help I can
get at present.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I was down the west country recently (Bristol area), bikes were wizzing past me in the bus lanes. I thought "Blimey, you're taking a chance". Then I looked at the signs! Cor! They're awake down here!

Last year I was around East Angular (Jade Goody's forin playes) and I was amazed at the number of "Think bike" posters.

Some areas of this country are proactive, why can't we standardize these practises??

Plymouth lets bikers go in bus lanes, I dont tend to use them though, since I'm just as fast when lane splitting, and it's easier to predict a car changing lanes in gridlock, than a bus driver pulling out into an empty lane when he's only looking for other busses or taxis rather than bikes, plus the diesel.

Signs Razz

the ones in plymouth are blue, and show a lane, with a bus a taxi and a motorbike on it, if you google your city, bus lane, and motorbike you'll probably be able to ascertain if it's legal.

I've found the Plymouth system really useful, especially in town itself. Armada Way is a whole load quicker (you can't really lane split there).

I really hope the trial lasts.

Wish I could here, but all the buses in West London have signs on the back, showing you'll get a £120 fine if caught in the bus lanes Sad xx

They once sent me a photo of the arse of my bike, (number plate) as I crossed a bus lane. I was turning left into traffic and just cut the corner of the lane which was a straight, not tapered beginning, to slip in amongst the line of cars. (I must have crosess a full 2 feet of bus lane at an angle) They let me off with a warning. But think, who pulls out of a side road and does a perfect L shaped manoeuvre to avoid right angle corners? A car avoiding that same bus lane would have it's front end venturing across the line of traffic coming the other way.
