Your opinions please about accommodation for bikers

Hello this is more to get feedback from members. I currently live in Ullapool (north west highlands) with my partner Nanette and i have been into biking for the last 4 years or so.

Basically Nanettes mum does B&B's through the summer and she loves bikes/bikers, she always has. Ive done a basic website for her, she has a large workshop/garage at the house which could easily hold about 12 bikes if cleared out and cleaned out. My question is would you go for a b&b with the option of storing your bike in a garage over night than leaving it parked outside open to the elements? Ullapool gets a lot of bikers through the summer touring the highlands and islands.

The site is www.cruachan-ullapool.co.uk its not complete ie no pics of rooms up. Your opinions would be appriciated as clearing the workshop will envolve a lot of work. And of course any excuse to put more pics of my bike up.

I'd imagine if advertised in the right places you'd get a lot of business over the summer months, but over winter it'd be pretty much dead.. Not to state the obvious!

I know it sounds like somewhere I'd stay! Might see if I can get up that way this summer, over a bank-holiday or something...

Yeah everything up here goes quiet in the winter to a certain extent. Just wondering if it would be worth while clearing space in the workshop, my bike is currently stored in there. I know personnaly i would prefer to keep a bike in a locked garage over night, there is no trouble up here but just for my minds sake.

I'm off round Ireland on Thursday for 6 days & specifically looked for B&B's or guesthouses that offered garaging for the bikes or at least welcomed bikers .... very hard to find ... think it's a great idea

Yeah its somthing i thought a lot of people would look for when touring by bike. Seems to be working so far as google is indexing the motorcycle page before the homepage.

personally, i dont think bikers are like disabled people and need special facilities

I wouldn't be bothered about the security myself, knowing that yer bike being nicked up there is pretty damn unlikely. But if you're aiming at big city paranoids then offering secure parking's probably a bonus.

Is there good mountain biking stuff around there?
That's another sector that secure 'parking' could be marketed at.

Cheers for your feeback guys. I here both sides so i will speak to her when she is back from NZ. Mountain biking the roads here are pretty fast you do get people wanting to do it but i wouldnt .

Mountain bikers' would be a good angle, somewhere safe to store expensive muddy bicycles is even more of an issue than motorcycles.

I did an MTB trip in North France last weekend, ended up having to quickly sneak two caked bikes into our hotel room when the receptionist was busy.

Mountain biking also tends to be more of a year-round thing than motorcycle touring.

I think that'd be a good idea, I'd like to use something like that especially if say there were a couple of tools there you could borrow, like say to adjust your chain.

Yeah its not the fact that someone would steal your bike very unlikely up here its more mother nature, the wind can get really strong here and the fact we are on the coast the salt water does not help either.

Everything else being equal, I think Anyone would take the B&B with the storage option.

Don't forget, those who know the area will know theft is unlikely, but many won't, or would rather be safe than sorry.

As a business, if you can offer anything more than the competition, then you'll win business because of it, whether that's from motorcyclists, or cyclists/MTBrs. In addition it's "undercover/dry and secure motorcycle parking" it's not just the security aspect that might appeal.

Other than some elbow-grease to empty the sheds, what have you go to lose by doing it?

Its my partners mums house it used to be her husbands workshop as he was a joiner. He passed away so it needs a fair bit of sorting out. Cheers for your comments.
