Bike transport

Hi,

I need to buy a new car, mine is on lease and its going back in May.

I dont do many miles so a gaz guzzler isnt a concern for me, however I go away quite a bit camping with the wife and dog and would love to take my bike with me. The wife doesn't drive so I would drive the vehicle to wherever we were going then I could go off for excursions leaving her in peace for a few hours etc.

My bike is a Honda FMX 650 which I suppose is a reasonable size bike, but my question is this,

does anybody know of a vehicle that would allow me to put my bike INSIDE so that I dont have to hook up a trailer or anything???

I am thinking of a campervan type of thing that I could possible remove seats from as a temp measure etc.

any ideas??

friend of mine has helped me out a couple of times by picking bikes up for me when I've bought a new one. he drives a peugeot expert. diesel I think, so not a gas guzzler anyway and you can fit a full size bike in there no problem. the van has 3 seats in the front and 2 in the back, which are removeable. he also takes it to festivals with a double mattress and sleeps in there Laughing

I was thinking less like a van and more like a people carrier / camper van perhaps.

I wonder about the VW transporter or Mazda Bongo maybe??

happy to help.you can also get a people carrier version of that van I mentioned I believe.the only problem with a people carrier is that you have to remove alot of seats to fit a bike in.

Would it not be easier just to get a towball fitted and take the bike on a trailer? Confused

The other thing you need to think about when putting a bike inside a vehicle is tie-down points, and a standard car isn't going to have many so you would probably have to put some in yourself. Also think of the mud (& possibly oil) that the bike is going to leave in your vehicle........ Sad

A trailer wouldn't really be feasible as I have knowhere to actually keep the trailer when not in use. I also dont want to leave it on my drive as it would look a tad unsightly.

I do understand where you are coming from, but a trailer is a no go unfortunately.

You can get some very very small fold-up trailers.

Could well be a better option.
