Iv been riding around with my best mate who owns a old 1996 SR125 and iv just found out he has been riding WITHOUT a CBT for the last year!

He has been pulled a few times, he is insured, moted, taxed just no CBT.

he tell me he has never been asked to take his CBT down to the station only his other documents.

he also had a little honda 50 which got nicked out of his garden and he got a pay out!

Thought it was like the law to have a CBT

Well yes you're correct it is, and I'm surprised he's insured as one of the questions they ask is: "On what date did you take your CBT?" I would suggest that as this is a prerequisite for insurance on an 'L' plate that his insurance is in fact invalid.

Technicalities and loopholes aside, he's best off doing his CBT asap.

He may have insurance in theory but its void in practise, so he is throwing his money down the drain. Wink

If you got your license in the 70's can't you ride up to a 250 on a provisional?

The fact that it may be void in practice would (it seems to me) not be that much of an issue (provided you were happy with technically being illegal)

I had over a 2 grand claim when I was on L's, they never asked me to produce my CBT cert.

So I think, "in practice" you would most probably get away with it. I dont condone it of course, and took my CBT etc

I bet almost no one else has ever been asked to produce a CBT certificate either when claiming Wink
