Where do people find it?

Talking about emotional strength to deal with tragedy or difficult times and carry on as you are.

I know it doesn't sound like much, But when something emotional happens for me.. I think of the brighter things that have happand in my life. When my Nan died i thought of all the good times i had with her which helped me out so much. Not sure what problem you have, but just think on the better side of things rather than dwelling in the worse parts.

Thumbs Up

You deal with it, no other option is there. The older you get, the more experience you have, the easier it is to deal. Is for me anyway, had enough crap in the last 6years to know how to deal with things, doesn't mean it doesn't affect you, it's just easier to conceal and get over.

Occupying yourself with something else is good. Spending more time doing stuff you enjoy and less time doing stuff you should be doing, is good in the short term, but if you keep it up too long things can fuck up a bit.

I have a good friend who I can talk to, get good advice from and is just there for me when I am at my lowest point.

Sometimes it is hard to get through each day, but you have to take one day at a time and try to break the problem into smaller chunks and deal with each little bit one at a time.

Dealing with tragedy is harder, as Shaane said, try to remember the good times you had, it takes a while, but eventually you start smiling more than crying and each day becomes easier to get through.

As has been said, you just plod on. There's no other option but to keep going, as hard as it may be.

Talk to someone you can trust and rely on. Lean on your friends a bit, they won't mind, that's what they're there for. Don't be afraid to cry, whether it's on your own or with someone, it's amazing how much you can "let out" through crying alone.

Most importantly, don't give up. Think of the good things in your life and the good memories you have and smile when thinking about them. It's the biggest cliche out there, but it really does get less painful with time.

Most the time I just try to deal with it cause you can't change what has happened, but often if its a family issue I tend to make myself deal with it better cause I know I got my little sister to look after, might not make sense to some but I need to keep myself strong for her.

Everything happens for a reason. We arrive on this earth, and then we die. It's all inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

Hey,
When bad stuff has happened to me i always think 'Life goes on'. You just have to knuckle down and carry on.

I hate it when ppl say 'Theres always ppl worse off than you'. Truth is im not them other ppl and to be honest i dont really care if they are worse off than me. Im not them and i dont know them. Thats me being brutally honest.

Yer possibly so but it dosen't really help does it. When your feeling at your lowest eb and someone says 'Theres someone worse off than you' do you honestly think 'Yer thats true', or do you think 'They aent got a clue how i feel'.

I can tell you when i was almost ready to call it a day i didn't wanna hear that someone was worse off. Personnaly i didn't care.

Its pigheadedness, keeps me going.
Like, not letting anyone know I'm totally not coping.

Then I get annoyed that nobody has noticed how tough I am having it.

And I sulk Cool

But eventually ya get over it, and you look back three months later and think "Can't remember what I was stressing about, now."

Thanks guys, for the past few years i've used the outlook, "theres always someone worse off than me" and i honestly believe it. In addition i've started do a bit for charity and looking to do some volunteer work out of compassion...

Just back during that devastating period in my life, I feel i never had that "strength" to be there for someone who desperately needed me and still feel guilty about it to this day. Now something is beginning to happen that although a lot different, has things in common, i.e. I have no control over, its inevitable, but I'm still expected to be there. Both times I've been left to be a crutch on my own neither friends nor family had the capacity to really supported me.

I just feel if I couldnt be that person back then, how can I be that person now? or i can hardly look out for myself, how can people expect me to look out for someone else?

I always feel that when something bad, devastating or tragic happens to me, I cope with it and pick myself up to carry on with life. I learn things about myself, other people and the experience teaches me about how to deal with bad times.

Recently I've had a lot of crap to deal with, but I'd dealt with a similar situation previously. I almost hit auto-pilot and went through the same processes and feelings as the time before. Again, from the recent situation, I've learnt things about myself and my friends/family who were around to support me and help me that helped cope.

Perhaps you didn't have the "strength" to support everyone the previous time things got bad, but maybe that was because you were experiencing for the first time yourself. This time, you may be a little bit more familiar with the emotions and how it all feels and be able to cope a little bit better.

My husband was killed on his bike nearly 12 months ago, I have 2 kids 6 & 8, I had to find the strength for them and for my husbands family, my husbands family expected me to be there crutch, like I was supposed to just manage. I think I have came through it a better person, I dont mind how they coped as they were grieving to, and we all greive in different ways.

My attitude was to to make sure my kids have gotten through it and to make sure everyone else was ok and forgot about myself which is wrong. I have stuck my head in the sand one one day my grief is going to come out with a vengence. But again apart from my friends I am going to need to get through it without the help of family.

So dont cut yourself up you need to look after yourself and dont stick your head in the sand.

Think I am rambling. Embarassed

In your situation, Mrs Mack, I think rambling is good.
Ramble as much as you like, love, you deserve it round about now.

It's not about how you think to being that person, it's about actually doing whether that's talking to them or physically dong something, it all amounts to one thing, support. Just by being there and acknowledging them you are helping. Any thing else like even a hug or a heart to heart is the norm help that people need. I think this also falls under looking out for them, being there when they need it whether you realize or not.

I don't even think that makes sense but meh.
