I'm looking to get some new motad grade 304 stainless steel downpipes for my CBR600fx. I'm unsure about what gaskets to get. I have the option of Aluminium or Copper ones and I'm assuming that one or the other will cause galvanic corrosion but can't find anything definitive through google or the depths of this forum.

At the moment I'm leaning towards aluminium ones but I'm not sure.

I'm sure people have experience with this so any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Aluminium is good at suppressing corrosion in stainless steel while copper can actually promote it. Unfortunately carbon is much worse than either of them and your bike makes a fair bit of it that sticks to the inside of the downpipe.

The important part though is that you also need water.

While the inside of the pipes does get wet occasionally it is unlikely that the water will stay there long enough to make any significant difference.

I could ramble on about galvanic index if you want? Guess not.

All they have to do is form a gas tight seal, they both should compress when tightened so go for the cheapest, carbon build-up holds them in place not galvanic corrosion and a screw driver will pop them out to change them.
