hi all,
respraying panels.
rubbed em all down.
given it a couple of coats of primer,
using 400 wet & dry between coats.
how many times should i do this?
it seem a bit of a waste, as im taking a lot of the primer back off!
should i just give them a good coating of primer, give them a quick rub down with the 400 (as they feel very smooth)
then go for a coat of the basecoat?
any advice welcome, as this is my first proper attempt at respraying & its looking good so far, & i dont want to f**k it up!
cheers,
GAZ

2 Good coats.
You shouldnt be taking lots off with the flatting, just smoothing off the prime inbetween.

Only do more if it seems that your finish isnt very good, and needs to be re done.

hi,
thanks.
i seem to be taking quite a lot of the primer off.
is 400 wet & dry the correct grade?
or maybe im putting it on too thin?
cheers,

Hi there,
You want a nice good coat, each time
that gives a wet look when putting it on, not a dry mist, but close enough to make a good shine,
You only need to just spend a few minutes on each panel flatting with the 400, all that the 400 does is flat down, so its 100% flat and will accept the basecoat nicely.

Hope this helps!

What ever it says on the back of your primer can,
flashoff is usaully 10-20 mins.
so give it a 15 min flash off, then hit it with the wet and dry
then get straight onto base!

?

...I prefer the way I'm painting my Fiat..... using MOD 'battleship grey' undercoat at the moment.... blasting the panels with extra rough ali oxide paper and an e/sander, and slapping on the undercoat with a paintbrush!

Once I source the topcoat, it'll be a quick rub down and another paintbrush job!

...do it the 'Ted' way! Thumbs Up

the key is the clear, also paint has a face and a flop, as to primer if the primer costs alot it will be hard to work if cheap it will be easy................i have used primer mostly to cover bondo or other fillerremember color is just color the clear that is the key

hi,
thanks for tip.
most people saying same thing.
preparation is a must - done the best i can, took my time, filled in some holes, got it as smooth as i could.
3 or 4 coats of primer - should have just done 2 good coats rather than the thin coats, hut hey. live & learn.
flatted off primer with 400 wet & dry.
gave it a quick once over with basecoat.(v. thin coat)
then gave it another coat.
but ran out of day light & space!
so will give it another coat now.
hopefully that will suffice?
then onto clearcoat (which is the one im most worried about) got plenty, so 3 or 4 coats?
its the mix/ratios im not sure about. ie clearcoat/thinners/hardner., guess its just trial & errror?
thats how ive got through it so far!
just added a little thinners at a time, till paint is manageable.
cheers,
GAZ
