Hi guys,

I dont have a bike yet myself, hoping to get a 125 when i have done my cbt.

The problem is...I want to keep the bike locked down and covered in the back yard, our back gate however isn't the biggest in the world. Looking at it I should be able to fit a bike through pretty easily but whether the wing mirrors will go is another question.

Are the wing mirrors on most bike able to tuck in for this situation or easily removed?

Apologies as I have never owned a bike before...dont want to spend over £1000 and it doesnt fit through the gate Embarassed lol

Thanks.

Not much help this, but some do, some don't. Confused

You'd be better off asking about particular models, whatever you are considering someone here is bound to have one.

Probably easier to measure the width of your gate, and then when you go in search of your bike, to bring a tape measure with you. Thumbs Up

Not what you asked, but it may be helpful to know that wing mirrors aren't a legal requirement on a bike. I've never had them on any of my bikes, much prefer to swivel my head round instead Razz

P.S. Do you live in Burnley? I live in Great Harwood so not far from you.

The mirrors on my CD250U are just too wide for my gate but there are two solutions. Either fold one of the mirrors in or 'wiggle' the bike through the gap by turning the bars and tilting the bike.

is your gate on a wall, or on a fence?

If it's a fence, think about making a larger gate, with a catch on to keep it open, so it doesn't blow shut when putting your bike away.

Do you have to get to your back garden via some sort of communal passageway, cos that could prove awkward, and be worth taking into account.

the Ybr's also screw out, i would think about widening the gate. Also its best to invest in a good lock/disk lock/ground anchor etc

On my CBR125, the mirrors can be very easily adjusted, You never know, your own personal preference may result in having the handlebars wider than your wing mirror span (possibly!)

Another thing to take into consideration is whether you want to be fiddling twice a day (if commuting) with your mirrors (getting them to your preference, and then screwing them inwards to fit through the gate and vice versa)

Or maybe you could take the mirrors off altogether and fit on those mirrors which aren't attached to the long bars (but directly attach to the front visor bit)

Don't worry if you damage a wing mirror.

Next time you are out on your bike just borrow one off a BMW as they won't notice it's missing until they're billed for it at their next service Laughing
