Hey

I have a Derbi Senda 125 and im having some troubles starting it, which i think could be because of the battery.

It wasn't starting yesterday morning, even with the choke on so i decided to borrow a friends battery charger and charge up my battery. Tried it again with the charged battery and it worked, so my mate took it out for a spin for a few hours last night to warm it up a bit, he wakes up this morning and it won't start ?

Should i buy a completely new battery ? or could it be another problem ?

There is no harm in fitting a fresh battery, should be about 25-30 quid for a little battery, but check your acid level in the battery you have first it should have lines on saying min & max (if its a clearbattery) if its a black battery you will have to remove the plugs and check if the plates inside are submerged, if the acid is low you can either buy a bottle of battery acid or deionised water to top it up.

If you have a multi meter it is worth checking if your bike is charging, just set it to 20 volt and put it across your terminals should be about 13v at idle and not go over about 14.5v when revved.

If your volts just drop when your testing or are not going high enough, you could have a faulty generator or reg/rec.

I had a hyosung cruise once that would start fine every morning but cut out trying to pull off and occasionaly missfire(no spark) for a second when riding, that was down to low acid level in the battery, although i though it was because i had fitted a different exhaust and needed jetting after topping the battery up it was fine.

With my 125cc I had a same problem...couldn't start it up either electrically or with a foot pedal - and that happened twice! So, the first time it was that i was playing around with the electric circuit and the fuse went out so the spark-plug couldn't spark. The second time it was the spark-plug that was the problem - the part between the two wires where the spark is supposed to be created was so dirty that it couldn't create a spark.

So, for the fuse problem, I just changed the fuse. For the Spark-plug problem, I just took it out and sandpapered both sides of the inside of the wires and it worked just fine. If the spark-plug is too old, just buy a new one.
