A yamaha yzf1000 thunderace 96 model, for a two stroke bike? Im after something like a dtr to play with. Im getting a bit bored of the yamaha, Its not the most perfect bike, its a bit roughed up but runs fine.

What two strokes are about these days? its been a while since ive rode a 2t. Is it worth it? Im probably mad but i want another bike.

There are a few options on the market... none are particulary new, the newest you'll find is something like an Aprilia rs250 or rs125.

2T 250's are becoming very rare and desirable, as lots of people on the roads use their bike purely for fun... and 2T's 250's are just that Laughing

I'm thinking, that if you are bored of your 1000, you would easily get bored of how slow a 125 is and how un-reliable they TEND to be. If you need to do any commuting, or long distance riding then most two strokes are not suitable. But if it's fun you want, I's say get a Kawasaki KR1s... You can pick them up in good nick for as little as £800 Thumbs Up and theyre the fastest compared to other rivals like the RGV and TZR.

Any if you've got any sense, sell the Yam privately and then but a bike. A swap/px rarely works out in your favour money-wise!

Cheers, Daz.

If you're looking for a 'play' bike, consider one of the decent enduro bikes; KTM or Gas Gas.
These come with decent suspension and a willing engine.
Stick road wheels on and they'll make a decent supermoto; off road wheels and they'll tackle almost anything in the mud.

Thanks for the advice, but i don't care about how reliable they are, it's purely for fun. I have been offered a kr1s for 600 quid but i'm after something a little more off road biast or enduro. I know that it won't work out money wise for me but im not that bothered. I don't use the yam that much and when i do, i don't enjoy it after riding the blade. I also ride a xr400 for commuting and stuff, and it can be a hoot, hence me wanting something along the lines of a dtr or likewise, just for that two stroke silliness.

It seems to me that there isn't many 2t's about nowadays, probably because they've all been thrashed to death or nicked and burnt out by little scrotes.

I'd probably settle for a decent dtr125/kmx125 without any cash exchanging hands, but it's finding someone willing enough to swap.

No thanks, I want something with a power to wieght ratio of more than 0.0000000000000000000000001 HP per KG. Laughing

Only joking, decent bikes they are, just not 2ts.

Would you consider a larger engine 2t off road bike?

KTM EXCs are pretty fast and there are many on ebay.

I'd love a Gas Gas Pampera - they seem to get good write-ups and don't have the comically high seat that most off-road style bikes seem to have.

Note that while we're recommending the new 2 stroke enduro bikes (of which there are lots around*, as ms suggests) they often have pretty flat power deliveries these days.
If you want something a bit more interesting, you could look at a pre-powervalve model. I paid £350 for an 87 KTM 350 enduro. Came with V5 and lights; would have cost maybe £150 to make road worthy.
As you can imagine the power delivery was 'interesting', though still perfectly usable for going slowly - just it properly /went/ as you got into the powerband Smile.

By the way Chris, the Pamp' seemed a pretty reasonable trail bike when I've ridden one.

* Look through the links in the sticky at the top for KTM EXC and GAS GAS EC models. There are 4 stroke and 2 stroke versions of each, but the 2 strokes are still pretty popular.

i want something that is road worthy, hence me saying dtr, and something that is not that old, e.g. after 1990. The two that spring to mind are DTR or KMX, but anything along those lines are good. I do mostly road riding, so it would be getting some supermoto wheels fitted anyway.

The last time i had a ktm, the guy at the bike shop laughed when i asked for parts. Plus i think theyre aimed a little bit towards racing, so regular rebuilds.

I haven't had any trouble getting parts for KTMs etc - just need to make a phone call. The 2 strokes really aren't that bad for rebuilds from play use.
As I say, you get better suspension etc from the off and they have the capability to take supermoto wheels easily, generally.

I've got a CRM125 (similar to the DT and KMX but maybe a bit more powerful) and despite liking lower powered bikes, I do find it a bit frustrating on the road.
How about a TDR250 - comes with road wheels and you get a decent 2 strokey kick from the road-biased engine I believe?

not of the exact bike, i need to change the coil and HT leads so its in pieces at the moment, im hoping to have it all done and back together by the end of the month so ill be able to get a picture then Thumbs Up

i do have a picture from the day i first got it https://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee81/paddy2007dug/DSC00833.jpg

its had some work done on it since then though so its got wheels like this at the moment:

https://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee81/paddy2007dug/a_17.jpg

also has an R1/6 blue spot front calliper and DEP end cans.

ill get a pic of the actual bike when its fully sorted if your still interested that is...

while were doing pictures do you have one of your bike, as much for the use of other people as myself.
