With regards to America, if you can find somewhere affordable and at the same time nice enough to live, you can't go too wrong with the West coast. Great weather, great atmosphere. Good positioning for touring too, as you have some great places to visit within a couple of days travel, for example from LA you have San Francisco and San Diego reachable in a day, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon within two days (three at a more relaxed pace) and Santa Fe NM (beautiful city) within maybe four or five days.

More advice: Don't *find* a decent lass. Just do whatever you do day to day and you'll cross paths with the right girl. I spent yonks trying to 'find' somebody but in the end she just appeared in my life.

Travelling Europe: Can be done very cheaply by staying in hostels (not as grim as it sounds, you may even meet your girl that way) and getting a round-Europe rail ticket which stops off at most major cities and costs about £300, and you can stay in any particular place for as long as you want really.

Hope some or all of this helps Thumbs Up

Emigrating to America seems to be very hard, I think I remember you saying your a welder, with any kind of trade like that you shouldn't have to many problems getting into Oz,NZ or Canada but the US seems to be a lot stricter on who they let in.

You will do well to get out of Grimsby. I trained to be a police officer there and my god it was rough and a lot of the people had major issues with life in general. Good luck with your plans Thumbs Up

Yup, Grimsby is the arsehole of the country, in my view all the sh1t seems to be here it is just generally a bad place to live, and is one of the main reasons, that i want to leave, and start a fresh, where nobody has a preception of you before they know you. You can walk around the place at night with out having to have an army of friends so you don't get beaten up or what ever else.

Cheers

But you live in Tetney, not Grimsby.
You don't have to go to Grimsby, there are lots of other towns around the area - Scunthorpe, Cleethorpes, Louth, Hull, Barton, etc. etc. - plus lots of villages if you just want to go for a quiet pint without risking getting beaten up.

I imagine most towns these days are pretty much the same if you go to town centre pubs on a friday.saturday night. I don't think Grimsby's any worse than lots of places in that respect. You just live near there so its your main experience.

I moved out of Grimsby because I couldn't stand the amount of traffic there these days. Village life for me any day.

You have your apprenticeship and riding to concentrate on, this should be enough to keep your mind off the general day to day shit. When you are finished with your apprenticeship and you have a full license, you're free to do a bit of touring. It finishes what, this summer? I bet with money saved from fags and booze you could get yourself a shiney sportsbike.

True.
The only towns that aren't are the ones without nightclubs and youth.
I've heard horror stories about Plymouth and Truro (both in Cornwall I think).

Then again, Grimsby could well be worse than most?

You say you have to walk around in a big group so you don't feel threatened. You ever thought that your group might threaten others (without you even intending to) which then causes them to get into a group? It's all just cycles and seeing stuff from a different perspective.

Anyway, it's not always greener on the other side. It takes experience to know that. I thought exactly the same about Halifax. I hated it. I'd lived there for 18 years and was just sick of the place. I was looking at moving to Europe or anywhere else.
Now I've been away for 3 years and see the place in a whole new light and really enjoy it when I'm back and miss it when I'm away (I live in Winchester which got voted 2nd best town in the UK and I'd rather live in Halifax. Makes you think)

But you need the experience to know what is right for you. You don't know what you want until you've tried it.

P.S. Europe: Get an inter-rail ticket. Get a tent and a mate and just travel anywhere. I covered it with a mate. We stayed in beach towns in France, major cities, sink towns and with friends near Prague. Seriously, its the best holiday I have ever had!
But then again, I like all the cultural stuff and wasn't just after getting pissed for cheap in every country (although I still enjoyed the cheap, decent beer Smile)

You're going about this all the wrong way and your plan won't work.........................

Moving to america in 12 years? fuck thinking about it now, don't waste your time and others by asking questions and stuff, it'll all have changed in 12 years time anyways!!

All your goals are open ended and too far off.. you need smaller goals to work towards so you actually see results and can feel a sense of acheivement.

My plan for the last two years was to "pay off loans" , it never happened... january 1st my plan changed to "fix crash damaged cbr, make nice, sell for X amount, pay off loan 1, put wages to pay off overdraft, left over money to pay off loan 2 etc" I am now debt free and managed to get a massive pay rise to go with it... go figure.....................

You need to break down your goals and make things achievable in the short term, not only is it easier to stick to but you might find you'll achieve stuff quicker that way.

And your "cut down/cut out smoking" goals are far too open ended... cut down or cut out? cut down or quit.... smoke one less a day or quit, smoke two less a day or quit... make your mind up, either quit or don't quit. and if you plan to cut down, HOW MANY per day? set a limit and stick to it... "cut down" is open to interpretation and you'll struggle to stick to it.

I have motivational problems and somehow I managed to stick at something long enough to get my loans paid off... it's only been almost 3 months on the new plan and now i have no debt (well I do have an overdraft left but thats manageable) I have a £8k per year pay rise, a new bike, my stunt cbr, a pit bike, and a new van.... not to mention crap like xbox360's. not fuckin bad? (not bragging, just making a point)

I hope it helps, ignore guv, think about what you want to achieve a bit more and break it down into stages.

think of it this way, do you like terrys chocolate oranges? Laughing you couldn't eat the thing in one go without breaking it apart could you? Wink break it into segments and before you know it you've eaten the whole thing (and the toblerone in the fridge hehe) crap analogy but you get the idea and I do hope it helps someone as much as it helped me so far.

Shame I am still empty and wholey unhappy but at least I have about £600 extra dispensable cash each month to waste on bikes Laughing

I'm bored of this place and this is my second time trying it. If I had the money I would be right back out in Florida or Cali.

If you do come here to live make sure its a in a tourist area you will be treated a lot better and also get out of paying taxes on stuff bought by showing your passport.

Nz next for me.

And don't listen to the haters man Wink

Behind every successful person lies a pack of them Mr. Green

Best of luck with it all Karma

It's amusing, you want to move to the US in 9years but you've got absolutely no idea about it yet are looking at North Dakota classifieds and are worried about immigration for your pet Lizard.

First of all, are you a good boy? Because if you have a criminal record for anything you can probably kiss goodbye to emmigrating to the US at all. If it's a 9year plan i'd revist the idea in 6 years, seems odd to decide to do something nearly 10years ahead when you clearly have no real idea about it, i'm also assuming you've never been there.

Grand Forks, hope you like the cold, +40 short summers, -40 long winters.
