I've been looking for a room to rent for a little while now, I've done the sums and I'm happy that I can manage it. I won't have as much money to throw away, but I won't miss that 'cos I just blow it.

I'm 21 and I just feel its time I moved out and gained that final bit of independance. Right now I've got it pretty cheap rent wise, I have to buy my own food but get my dinner done for me and my skudded undies washed. Where as If I move out I'm rinsing £80 a week on rent/bills plus food. I just feel I've come to the point where I need a change and being stuck at home with the 'rents isn't helping matters 'cos I just settle back into the old routine.

I just wanted to ask you exhalted members of BCF if it really is worth the expense and hassle? Or did it just make you poor(er) and stuck with a bunch of annoying flatmates?!

Any advice on choosing who to live with?

Oh and if any bikers are looking for a flatmate in Reading gimme a shout, 'cos I can see the whole motorbike thing putting people off Mr. Green

Lived in a flatshare with two other people which was fine but now there's 5 there now i fucking hate it and would move out if it was worth the hassle. Get on dead well with one of the lads who's just moved in (workmate as well) due to getting a bike but it's gotten cliquey in the house... Go for a smaller share and you should be ok. T

Moving out (1.5 years ago) is the best thing i ever did. Although its coming to an end soon and it looks like im gonna have to move back in with the fucking parents.

You won't regret it. Its great not having to answer to anyone, come home whatever time of the night and be as loud as you want, no one nagging you, able to smoke weed inside.

The only thing you'll probably get raped by is fucking council tax. I'm sick of paying it.

I moved out to go to uni, which is in different terms, also due to the fact my parents are paying for my accommodation. But I am very glad I did it and enjoy living away from home. I live with 5 others which can be manic at times but I prefer it to a smaller share.

Cheers chaps.

Well I am leaning towards a bigger share, I don't fancy being stuck with just one or two 'mid 20's professionals' who I don't have much in common with so a busy house could be a plus. I think I'll just be going for the cheapest one that is in caversham, I'm not arsed about SKY and a nice garden to have dinner parties in Middle Finger Laughing Obviously my main concern is somewhere to put the bike(s)

I'm feeling positiveness.

Big houseshares are great until people group up and the arguments start...

I've lived on my own since I was 17 (now 24) and although initially not out of choice I learnt a lot and it changed me as a person completely, you grow up, so am glad it happened that way. Only problem now is I don't ever want to live with anyone else (although someone to do the cooking would be nice), I like my own space too much and have grown immensely intollerant of sharing it Smile

All I would say is if you are doing it because you feel it's about time is if you are likely to need something expensive in the near future, like a car, bike, something that requires saving up, save up for it before you move out. When you're on a med-low income and move out you'll find your money covers very little more than the cost of living and saving is nearly impossible.
