Short trip, but not sure where to go.

Hey guys,

Thinking of doing another bike trip this June after i finish @ uni for a nice break before i go back to real work Rolling Eyes

I have set aside about 10 days, and call me a wimp but i don't like to ride much more than about 200 - 250 miles a day as i like to stop and look at the places i'm riding to Smile Plus my seats uncomfortable and i have a dodgy knee

i rarely ride motorways as they bore me lol Smile

I am thinking of catching the ferry to france and seeing the d-day beaches etc or going east toward germany. went to spain, switzerland, belgium, south france etc last year.

Any opinions?

I've done both the Normandy beaches and I've been into Holland and Germany as well. If you are a bit of a history buff then I can definitely recommend Normandy, there is something incredibly powerful about walking though the Omaha cemetery up to the edge of the bluff. There are more museums around than you can shake a stick at so you will not be short of things to see, although its not the best area for riding.

If you want more of a riding holiday then I would suggest Germany. The Eifel region is only 250 miles from Calais and has the best biking roads that I've ever been on, not to mention the Nurburgring as well. It's worth a detour up to Overloon in Holland (only about 150 miles from the Eifel) to go to the Military museum there - that place is stunning and has more tanks than any aquarium!

Holland sounds good, will have to look into that. Cheers

The other option i was thinking of was scotland, but from london its about 500 miles and that distance will get me well into germany etc. Not sure which is better lol

Its true that the journey up to Scotland from London would be a bit of a bore but you should try and make it up to the North West at some point, you won't regret it Thumbs Up

Plus, once you get past Birmingham you can cherry pick your route upto Scotland through the Peak District / Pennines / Lake District etc. So the journey in itself can be a good ride if you don't want to just motorway it all the way up.

Holland is somewhere to ride through on the way to somewhere interesting Laughing

The Highlands and Islands of Scotland offer world class riding and scenery. They're truly awesome Thumbs Up

As Shay HTFC says, make the trip north interesting. I'm not a fan of the Peak District due to the congestion, but once north of the M62 the traffic disappears. The Yorkshire Dales, North Pennines and Borders etc. all offer excellent riding and scenery Cool
