Hi all just done my CBT and want a sporty 125 for everyday use. I really like the RS125 but have been reading around and it seems they need alot of maintenance like rebuilds and so on. Is this true?

I have also looked at the YZF R125 but its a little too expensive and im worried about depreciation. After this i also looked at the CBR but im not too keen on it. So its down to the YZF and the RS, any advice?

Thanks all

If you want sporty, and performance. Get the RS125. They cost no more to maintain than a 4 stroke but provide more fun and more longetivity.

I have a CBR 125 and it bores me to death and has cost me just as much to run as both my NSR and RS 125

The YZF looks beautiful for a learner legal bike but i would go with the RS.

2T>4T when it comes to fun.

Thats why i am after a DT125X instead fo the Derbi Senda

Most say 8000km (I do it a bit more often at 6000km). Rings are £35 and £20 for the gaskets (less if you just order the particular ones you need), and a gentle afternoons work (or a couple of hours for a dealer).

The NSR & Derbi are in a bit lower state of tune and are less maintenance intensive (but slower).

All the best

I was looking at the Derbi GPR on the MCN classifieds.

Got a few 125cc's but mainly they got 50's.

Why would you be now looking at 50s if you're capable of getting a 125?

Even a derestricted GPR50 would be slower than a bog basic CG125

Just go with the RS or a Mito. Theres plenty of them about, plenty of spares and they are reliable enough.

Top ends arent much £100 ish maybe a bit more.

I plumped for safety and reliability when I was in your position OP, and got the CBR125R. I don't regret it in the sense that it does exactly what I've asked of it, and other than a few problems (that wouldn't have been caused but for my own lack of knowledge about bikes) it's been perfect.

I went for a 4T over a 2T simply because I've heard 2Ts cost a lot to maintain, and as a student, I don't have a lot of cash...

I'm looking for an upgrade now however, upon the impending (hopeful) completion of my DAS...

A 2 stroke should cost less to maintain (basically there is next to nothing to do, no valves to adjust, no cam chain to wear out, etc). Trouble is that people compare the RS125 to the CBR125. The RS is tuned as far as they will dare go (and then restricted down), and this leads to an engine that has high maintenance costs.

Try and build a 4 stroke to produce the same kind of go as a 2 stroke of the same capacity and the costs of building it would go through the roof and the maintenance would be hideous.

All the best

Keith

Hi

I would no bother with the Derbi. No point limiting yourself to something that slow for no real reason.

If I lived where I would use the bike out of town reasonably often them I would go for the RS. If it was just as a good looking round town commuter then the YZF might be a better choice.

All the best

You could look up a Rieju 125, little bit cheaper than a Japanese bike and quite sporty. Not a sack of Chinese shit either, built in Spain.

The thing to bear in mind about CBR125s is that they have almost the same tyre profile as a CG125, so if i were you i would wait it out till the YZFR125 becomes available. If it were me, i would choose handling over top speed on a 125, realistically theyre much more fun if you use them within their limits.

I have a GPR50 (the new shape) 2005 and mine goes about 60 (I have had 58 out of it but thats pushing it). It is just derestricted and had no tuning.

Nice little bike to run around on but be prepared to struggle going over 50.
