Well, the RC8 has had it's launch to the press.

https://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc115/UKGS_Duchess/Bikes/20080325-e1sg24ipkfh3uyj5jf8638s1p1.jpg

It seemed to be universally praised.

A few negatives such as gear box a bit notchy and Fat Berks mag reckoned it was only making 120 bhp on the dyno.

But other mags reckoned 140+ and a Norwegian dealer has dynoed their demo bike and got 150 bhp exactly.

The current issue of Bike has these quotes:

On the front cover-Fast like a Ducati, comfy like a BMW

And in the 8 page article itself :

You can adjust the seat height and the bars, the clocks tell you absolutely everything and the engine is a peach - it's an astounding road bike.

Fast, sharp, comfy, ingenious - the RC8 is not just the first Austrian superbike,it's also the greatest V-twin ever built

At the time of writing, KTM UK had 150 orders for the RC8 before anyone had ridden it,with dealer stock request out-stripping this year's allocation of 350 bikes. It may be £1400 more than a Fireblade, but it's almost £600 less than a 1098,and a better bike. They'll have no problem selling as many as they can make.

What do you think? I'm seriously considering taking one for a test ride ... maybe its time for a change.

I think it looks awesome, especially in white. The only match for it in looks is - in my opinion - the BMW HP2 sport.

Looks a bit like a prop from the set of Robocop, but I wouldn't say no to a go.

Hold your bloody horses!

That's not what Superbike magazine said!

How dare them make claims like that!

It's okay... it's definitely grown on me, at the NEC bike show I couldn't even be bothered to go have a look at it on their stand, but it definitely looks better in white. Looks a bit bulbous at the front for such a tiny seat unit though.

As V-twins go I still prefer the looks of the 1098, especially the 'R' version.

Have I heard that KTM are going into WSB with it in a years time or so?

Not sure about the front headlight, but I like it overall and it is getting good praise everywhere.

All these new sportsbikes are starting to look very similar, probably won't be able to tell the difference now when one flies past.

The sound doesn't do anything for me either.

Is quite pretty tho.

Saw one out on the road yesterday had my windows down in the car and instantly turned the CD player off in the hope of hearing a meaty induction growl and there was almost complete silence...bit dissapointed. Looking forward to seeing the aftermarket systems that come out for it.

Looks utterly fantastic in my mind, definitley comfortable or it was when i sat on one at the NEC. Does look like it'd castrate you on the tank though if you braked too hard though. Desperate to ride on, might try and blag a test ride when i go back to Dubai on the 4th.

Absolutly love it, id consider buying one, but they are priced the same as a 1098, which is out of my league.

Hmm ... have to disagree with you there. I think it adds value to the overall design.

https://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc115/UKGS_Duchess/Bikes/20080325-nxk9enuinx4561wsd9e4r915te.jpg

The bike comes delivered in 'Road' mode with the seat and pegs on the low setting :

https://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc115/UKGS_Duchess/Bikes/20080320-eqt5id63994r6xh1iw3m6e8css.jpg

The clip-ons,levers,and gear/brake levers are all adjustable so it really is very simple to tailor the riding position and feel to the individual rider.

https://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc115/UKGS_Duchess/Bikes/20080320-qfwias4mrp4jxh71ajwn6txjfg.jpg

The clocks are very clever, with so much info on display and with a 'Road' and 'Race' mode which give totally different displays.

https://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc115/UKGS_Duchess/Bikes/20080326-r8ida516rtyahh9p1m819dyn7b.jpg

There's not much I dont like about this bike as yet. It quite tasty looking and I'm quite looking forward to taking one for a test ride.

Granted ... but I wasnt trying to be sarcastic, not at all. Each to their own.

I like the overall style of this machine and have read some really good reports about it BUT taking the bike for a test ride will be the deciding factor for me.

Thats what I was trying to say.

Its as the thread title suggests. You either like the style or loath it.
