What to buy next???

Hi guys,

Im looking on advice for my next bike (It will be my second since passing my test)

I currently ride an sv650s and have been for about 9 months and although i am far from bored with the sv i just want to experience other makes etc.
So im looking at swapping it when i have 1years NCB for something maybe a little more sporty. I dont want anything thats stupid fast I am still finding my limits etc.

My heart is telling me that I *must* ! own a zx6r but is that too much bike for my second bike?

I wouldn't worry too much about finding your limits, I dont mean just go out and hoon I mean that surely your limits will be different on different bikes.

The ZX6 is only as quick as you make it, if its what floats your boat get it.

Is your SV650 your first bike ever? (no 50/125?) Ergo, your biking road skills are nine months old? Or have you been driving for longer or whatever?

Do you also drive a car? Ie. do you have other road experience?

Is the SV full power?

Cos a zx6r was my first big bike, but after a year on a 125. Had it 33bhp for 6 months. Gone now


Full power aint too much for me to be honest, so if you're coming from a full power SV and already have road experience, I wouldnt worry too much. You shouldnt be scared of a bike, you should be scared of your right hand, as Guv pointed out

However, if you've only had 9 months on the road at all, and your SV isnt full power, stick with it and master it, no point changing bikes if you're gonna keep them restricted in my opinion, you wouldnt know what the SV is really like?

I started finding my limits last autumn, but then winter kicked in. So I'll be pushing my limits and hopefully the bikes this summer

As I said, you have experience, you want something different, go for it. Especially if you're at least used to the power of an SV


I believe 80bhp to 100bhp wont sound like a big difference, but realistically the power delivery differences and the 20bhp jump will feel massive at first, but you'll quickly get used to it I reckon.

If you want a zx6r, get one. I have NO complaints after a full year (including a full winter) on a 9 year old bike.

And dont listen to Wave2K if he responds, he talks loadsa crap about Kawasaki's head gaskets and stuff

I suppose all of the sports 600`s are appealling but the zx6r is the "one" if you know what i mean second choice would probably be a gsxr

Dont know why, it seems to be a subconcious thing..i look at one and think god i NEED that!

Im hoping to pick up one brand new if the 0% deals are still on.

I can relate to power jump feeling massive, My SV felt almost too fast for a while! now im urging it to be faster!!

At 32 you should be a big enough boy to control yourself so buy one if you can afford it. Don't let time pass with thoughts of "should have . . .".

I think a bigger bike is not a problem if you have self control, some people jump on a 600/1000 straight away, find the nearest bend and go full throttle into the first tree, becuase they just want to go fast.

Someone who may have been riding 6 months but has good control and knows when is a good time, and when is a bad time to go fast, is safer.

If your fairly new, like I am, then your biggest worry is dropping it, i.e doing U turn, moving it into a garage.

In September I think, I was condsidering spending alot of a sporty 600, then one day I dropped my CB400 doing a U-turn, and thought how much that little muck up would cost if it was faired.

Get a mid age (1999/2000) sort of bike, and some crash bungs!

no probs at all I'd say.
Didn't start riding til I was 30 and had been drivin for 13 odd years.
It gives you a perfect chance to understand the road and be old enough to had some semblance of control.

I went to my zx6 from a 250gpx after about 12 months. Never had any issues with it and Im sure the SV is a bit quicker the the old gpx:)

I had a zzr600 for about 3 months before I got my ZX6r, you should have no problems really just take is easy getting used to the bike.

You will love the ninja though
