There are 2 main varients with the ar125, the non uk ones and the uk ones. Iirc the b7 is uk meaning it is about 12bhp unrestricted (maybe abit more) the non uk bikes had a different top end all together different compression ratio and porting im sure there is more but i cant think of just now im sure someone else will be along to correct me.

Thanks for that babykat,I heard that these engines use a disc valve and if I swap that from an engine thats unrestricted it would make an improvement.

does anyone on here have an exhaust laying around for one of these that they want to sell?

Yes, they do use a disc valve. i dont think youll get much more from it, if you were that bothered, you could fit a kmx 125 engine in there.

Hi

From memory they are restricted by using a different disc valve, a different barrel and a different exhaust. Along with different carb settings to match. Made them probably one of the best sorted restricted 125s but also a very expensive pig to derestrict.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Somewhere around I have a late 1980s copy of PB with a 125 road test. Think the AR managed around 75 when restricted standard (true speed rather than indicated).

All the best

Keith

Presume you mean oil pump.

I lived in Northern Ireland in the mid 80s. Most of the 125s there were full power as they still had a 250cc learner law (and nobody could afford the insurance for a 250 as a learner).

All the best

The full-power and restricted versions of the AR125 had different disc valves, carbs, oil pumps, exhausts and barrels. Fitting an after-market exhaust, full power disc valve and carb and a performance air filter will offer a major improvement in performance. You don't need to change the oil pump. Just add about 1% two stroke to the petrol. Allspeed or Micron exhausts can be picked up on eBay. Full-power disc valves should be available from Kawasaki dealers. Failing that the resitricted disc valve can be cut. The carb can be more difficult to get. The best bet is probably trying to get one from Ireland. Performance air filters are availble from sites such as bitzforbikes.co.uk - but don't fit one without changing the carb as it won't work. If you do all this it will wheelie on power in first and pull to the red line in top. If it sounds like a lot of trouble, just change the exhaust for the biggest improvement to be had from a single modification.

I had an AR many years ago. It came restricted but someone gave me a disc valve off an unrestricted one. Added 10mph to the top speed (indicated 70 to 80). To be honest, I wouldn't have wanted to go more than 80 on it, and the sheer level of arse involved in getting another barrel and pipe for a few more mph wouldn't have been worth it.
