I dont think much of it..Looks more like a tourer than a sports bike.

Are aprilia still knockin the RS125 out? Wonder what their 4 stroke answer to the new laws will be.

1) It's around 13bhp - it may do 80mph at a big push, but I doubt it.

2) It's a 4 stroke - it cannot be derestricted, as it's not restricted in the first place.

3) It will not do 100 mph, unless you bore it out and generally spend too much money on it.

Edit: Just looked it up, it has 13bhp. My bike has 12bhp and it has a max speed of 65mph. Therefore, the CBR125 will probably get nowhere near 80mph.

Aprilla are still knocking the RS125 out.

They just tinkered with it so it'd pass the new EU emissions law.

Something Honda couldn't be arsed to do, it appears. So they pawn people off with a dodgy, slow, ugly piece of filth.

Hi

They are not restricted as standard. They merely cannot make enough power to reach the learner limit (learners are legally restricted to 11kW, the CBR125 manages 9.7kW). With that much power expect them to do something between 75mph and 80mph (true, not indicated). In this form they will be slightly slower than a restricted Aprilia RS125 (as they have about 10% less power than the Aprilia, as well as weighing more).

All the best

Keith

A rumor i have heard....

Friend of a friend said, he couldnt ride a RS125 on a CBT. There has been a change in the law because too many kids were de-restricting them an crashing. A full (or be it full restricted like i had) is needed to get on a NSR/RS125.

Anyone else heard about this new 'Rule'.

I think you should edit your first post and make it into a poll, so we can see what we think as a forum.

I'm with Laura though, NSR's look better!

Hi

No such rule that I have heard of. However they are getting a little difficult with requiring proof that they are restricted when people do their tests on them.

All the best

How do you prove a 125 is restricted?

Do you have to get a garage to sign a bit of paper to say so?

Hi

That is why Shaun had his first test cancelled, and his bike was restricted. Examiner wanted a signed note from a dealer.

All the best

You can't ride an RS on a 33bhp license when its full power because of the power to weight ratio aspect of that law!

As far as I know you can ride a restricted one on a CBT though.

I took my test on an NS125R with a full micron system and no-one said anything to me about it. In fact, the examiner was impressed that I looked after my bike. My instructor told me to wash my bike thoroughly before the test - afterwards I worked out why! Smile

i know what 33bhp is, but whats 25kw, is this the same thing translated or is this to do with the bikes weight compared to its 33bhp output? and therefore acceleration,

25kw is the true value that an A2 licence restricts you to, this, however, translates roughly to 33bhp as noone really uses kw in this country.

It's the same as comparing miles and kilometers.

Hi

True, but then the same applies to most bikes. The limit for a 33hp licence (25kW) is 0.16kW/kg, so to have the full amount of power it must weigh more than 156.25kg. The RS125 weighs in at 115kg (claimed), although it also only has about 28~29hp in reality. However it depends on whose claim for the weight you use, and whether you use dry weight or curb weight (after all, that would add around 12kg for the fuel, another 2~3kg for the oil and water, etc), and the chassis plate on the RS claims 140kg (I think, or it used to). If you take the true power figure to be 29hp (and I have not seen an Aprilia brochure claiming any hp figure for the RS125) and the weight to be 140kg (if I am remembering the chassis plate correctly) then it is legal in full power mode.

This power to weigh ratio would count out quite a few bike. The CCM R30 for example might not be restricted licence legal at 33hp as it weighs 137kg (claimed), and at the current rate it will only be a couple of years until a 33hp Fireblade would have too high a power to weight ratio if we use the dry weight.

All the best

Keith

Not keen on it at all really, as I have said before I think the upper part of the nose faring looks like a Varadero, which is no looker it's self.

It's a shame that Honda have moved away from two stroke learners. It's cheaper to buy new than the old NSR but it's for a good reason, who wants to spend £2k on a learner bike that you can't de-restrict? It seems to me like they have built a CG with a fairing.

Aprilia on the other hand not only make the RS, they are making a Tuono version for this year, basically a Tuono look a like RS125. At least one of the manufacturers is listening to what the learner market wants.

gotcha,

cos a 33bhp busa, and a 33bhp rs125, wouldn't finish exactly at the same time on a quater mile run would they?

Yep, the Busa would be some way behind an RS125 tuned to produce 33hp at the rear wheel.

All the best

I've just been looking at the Aprilia website, it looks like their 125 Tuono comes already equiped with crash bungs. Now that's a good idea for a learner 125!
