Right so I filled up at asda on friday evening, put about £14-15 . But they've charged me £20 for it!? I used the pay at pump thing.

So what's my chances of getting my dosh back? The bike has only got a 17l tank and only had just hit the 3.5l reserve. So I couldn't have put that much in.

Was it the big ASDA in leeds by any chance? i'm sure they over charged me once but was only a couple of quid (like 1.50 or something) so didn't bother looking at it closely.

If you can prove that you couldn't possibly of put £20 in then maybe its worth chasing up.

You sure that the £20 relates to that petrol transaction and not another ? A lot of transactions are comming through late and it could be a previous one.
Only way you will get anywhere is to go back the the store. Bank won't be able to help you as it will be a C&P transaction and you agreed to the amount. Only thing they could do is tell you the date and time of the transaction. Not the date it debited your account.
Did you get a recipt for the transaction ? If not you are pretty stuffed.

Not sure on this one but i thought that you got charged if you used a credit card on those machines. I know that Debit cards are fine though?

I'd be inclined to check my statement on-line tomorrow, when the transaction should appear. Failing that you didn't fill-up up with their super un-leaded @£1.479/L did you? Smile

A) AFAIK Credit/Debit card statesments = reciept

B) Asda/Tesco cow to any inane drivel. If you go in adamant they've stung you a fiver, they WILL give it back. Especially with a cogent accompanying argument.

C) IF they try and wriggle out of it, just keep pushing for higher people. They are so utterly useless they'll just chuck you a fiver with a 'you owe me one' look to get rid of you. But money is money.

Do you have a Solo card?

There's something on the pumps about that.

The guy in a shell garage explained to me how pay at pump works. You insert card, it charges you 10-40 pounds depending on the card and garage, then you fill up. It works out how much you have used, and then automatically refunds the difference. This means that you should get the money taken and refunded at the same time. Apparently in reality it doesn't work like this and there is a 2-3 day delay in getting refunded.

I don't use pay@pump for this reason, and because everywhere I go I either wear lid in or refuse to pay. In the summer I won't care, it's just too cold on me ole neck now.

Bit stupid though, I'll just walk up in future.

And yeah it was Matt, it's the cheapest around here.

Yea watch out if you are close to your limit as the esso auto payment terminals auth for £60, the max you can have and then debit you for the correct amount.
Most time that is not a problem, but if the auth sticks, thats £60 of your balance you can't spend till it clears. Or if its over a weekend and you not got much more in the account, it can be enough to get you embarased when paying for something else....
Bank can't clear it, its the retailer that needs to.

if you used solo then it will take a min of £20 it did it to mine about 18 months ago and the refund went back in my account about 4 days later, if its not make sure you go kick up a fuss with the store manager as i have heard they will mostly just refund you the full £20 to shut you up Laughing

Ive had this 3 times now, but at only a couple of pence.
I use Solo, at a Shell garage in Chichester.
It dose say 'Max' £10 but it stops at £9.50, this has happened twice and ive been charged £10 each time.
Its not a huge charge so left it.
Last night I put £8 in but got charge £10
Ill wait a couple of days to see what happens.

I never use pay at pump, let them wait behind me. Fuel costs so much already without them trying to charge me more. Thumbs Down

Thread resurrection Smile

Yeah the difference was refunded in a couple of days, but it's a ball-ache if you need it.

So I don't use it anymore, just walk to the till.

To be honest, if this happened to me I wouldn't notice. Maybe worth checking the statements - and getting receipts from pay at the pump fill ups.
