If no joy let me know. I can copy a win XP SP2 Dell disk and all you will need to do is download the drivers for your model. As its a Dell disk you wont need an install code..

Let me know..

Dell machines generally come with a hidden partition on the hard drive for restoring the operating system to the original factory settings - ctrl+F11 on startup will take you into the menu

It will overwrite everything on the C drive tho, so backup before trying it Thumbs Up

Dell website instructions

ok Van, here's what I've got...

Dell branded disc, title is 'Operating system already installed on your computer - reinstalation CD - Microsoft Windows XP Pro Inc SP2'

Pack of Dell Apps including Eurotools disc 1 and 2 and 'Dell Dimension ResourceCD'

Original, unopened Windows XP Home Welcome book including a disc titled as 'Operating system already installed on your computer - Reinstallation CD - Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2'

I think the 3100s we bought came with XP Pro, but I can't be sure. I was expecting stuff to be labelled and in a cabinet, but when I looked there was just a cupboard full of packs of discs!!

The reason I'm after the CD is I've tried an 'upgrade' vista disk and the 'CTRL +F11' function no longer works Sad . I also get some annoying message when it boots up about floppy seek failed or something, but my machine hasn't got a floppy?

Go into the bios and check that floppy is not set as a boot device.

Thanks UnknownStuntman,

Colin has said he'll post me a disk today but, if I'm unsuccessfull with it, then can I get back to you? (very necky I know).
I'm 99.5% sure it had 'Home edition' before I killed it
Embarassed .

I'm pretty sure that during my pc killing process I have wiped the partition with the recovery 'gadgetry' on it off?

Is it possible to put the system back to how it was with the recovery disk, then make a partition to install vista onto? (which is what I should have probably done in the first place).

I'm having the same problem with a Dell Dimension 3100 fixing it for a colleague in work. In using the wrong recovery disk I have managed to erase the recovery partition, so I can no longer restore from boot up using Ctrl+F11.

So I'm desperately trying to find anyone that can make and send a copy of the recovery disk or make a ghost image of the Dell 'recovery partition' as these are my only two chances I have in getting this pc to run officially with the genuine copy of Windows that it's licensed to.

Many thanks and I really hope somebody can help,
Ghandi
