new income tax levels... good for everyone? I think not!

Just read on MSN a reminder that the income tax changes announced last year come in to effect next week. So I thought I'd see whether that's a good thing or a bad thing for me.

And according to it, over the course of the year, I will be about £10 better off. Wow. £10. For a whole year.

But it gets better! I put in my boyfriend's wage, which is less than mine at the moment. And it tells me he is £70 worse off! I know I heard at the time that the new income tax wouldn't help people on lower incomes, but now I see proof. How can you expect things to improve if you increase the tax on the lowest earners? *shakes head*. I just don't get it. Well, one thing I do get is Gordon Brown stinks... Thumbs Down

Thankfully i don't do too bad out of it, but it's a really dirty stunt. I remember it being announced this time lastyear and working it out when I got home how it'd affect incomes, as I was sure the removal of the 10% band would outweigh the 22% to 20% reduction. For me on the salary I had at that time I only just escaped being taxed more.

Ridiculous how he can justify a move to take more money from low earners, I think ultimately it probably doesn't raise much more tax than previously though so I think he was just hoping too many people would think he'd reduced it and not bother working it out, the media do that for you though so he can't hide it.
