As i'm new to this site, and literally just signed up Embarassed

I am needing some help with the new licence rules that is coming out in september, as I can't take my test before then because my car licence is surrendered. I hear you have to restrict the bike to 33bhp which is a tad shit to be honest.

Now, i'm going to be getting the new '08 R6 later this year and was wondering how much it roughly costs to get this done? And if there is a way around it? IE - take them out after you've got the certifcate?

Lastly, anybody know any sites where I could find out a bit more info on bikes tests? prices etc etc.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Scott.

you will be required to restrict it to 33bhp if your under 21 yes. however it will be an ecu restriction on an 08 R6 so fairly easily removable - just swap ecu's.

The DSA website should have test info i would assume.

if your 22 you can do your direct access test which lets you do the test and jump out on anything you like - full power.
have you ridden before?

edit: can i ask why your licence is 'surrendered'?

Yeah I've got experiance on the road, but only delivering pizza's on a delivery bike. But hey, thats experiance Laughing

My licence is surrendered because I had a serious car crash last June, and i'm on tablets to stop me fitting, so whilst i'm on them I can't have my licence back.

But I thought it wasen't direct access after september? And I wont be able to take my test before then Sad

Come september you will need to be 24 to do your DAS.

Also, i believe all the power restrictions are changing in september. There is an article about it somewhere but i wouldn't know where to look.

Someone else maybe able to link you to it.

You're getting confused with the 3rd Licencing directive, that's coming in sometime around 2012. It's only then that the DAS age and the power restrictions are changing.

All that's changing in October is that the test is getting more difficult (with a new off-road 'part one').

This is confusing Confused So, IF I take my test after September, I can still jump straight onto a R6?

As forest gump says "Stupid is as stupid does"

I do agree it'll only go as fast as you want, Ive only got 18k on the roads in two years on the thundercat so im no expert but this R6 scares the shit out of me sometimes.

I dont think its a good first bike but thats just my opinion, I wouldnt want to see someone who had just passed their car test buying a 911 turbo Laughing

what did you expect? - If you was an insurer would you want to be responsible for paying out when the freshly test passed, testosterone filled youngster, riding the latest fast 600 sports bike who has no experience goes out and splats something or himself?

I agree. And obviously they wouldn't believe that i'm going to take it slow for a while. But, yes, a 810bhp/ton bike for a 1st bike is a tad mad.

Been quoted £750 so far...

08 R6? It is bhp per TONNE.

Hornet's put out around 500bhp per tonne... Confused

Although the 810bhp/tonne is for the claimed power so it will be less in reality.

Claimed power to real power you'll lose about 10-20% dry weight includes NOTHING, no fuel, oil, water, so add another 30 odd kg onto that then add your 70kg rider.

08 R6 on specs nicked from this month's BIKE:

113bhp, 192kg (wet weight) = 560bhp/tonne

Even on claimed figures 810 bhp per tonne sounds a bit ambitious.

Yamaha quote 129bhp and 160kg's Question

Are they lieing? Where did you get your figures from?

Edit - Sorry, didn't see they were from BIKE.

in a round about way, yes they are lying. the 129bhp will be at the crank and not at the back wheel. by the time the power is though the mechanicals to the tyre gripping the road its down to the 113 mark give or take.
As explained above, 160kg will be the bike absolutely empty, just parts. Add 17litres of fuel (17kg), 4 litres of oil (4kg), 4 litres of coolant (4kg) etc etc and it soon adds up.

to get a true 800 ish bhp/tonne you need something like my slightly tuned gsxr 1000. Wink
