Hi all

How easy is it to fit clutch plates?Been to see a mechanic today and he told me he thinks i need new clutch plates

Basically im riding along and in every gear after ive changed my bike is clutch slipping loads, ive tryed adjusting the clutch cable but no joy at all, does this sound like im in need of new clutch plates?

Reason i asking is because the mechanic didnt seem that sure to be honest

Thanks all Smile

Look in your bikes owners manual haynes etc..... and find the part on adjusting your clutch pushrod. This is what the cable moves that then moves the clutch. If it is too far in then in effect your clutch is being applied no matter what the tension is on your cable. The general idea is to get it lightly seated so the clutch is fully off when you dont pull the lever but moves fully when you are pullin so it doesnt drag. I had a this problem on my old DT50 and i took me a while to get the balance right. Try this before ripping into the plates Thumbs Up

Hope it helps.... Rich

Thankyou for advice

Unfortunetly i dont have a kymco manual so have no chance of working that one out

Ive ordered the parts that im told is needed they are clutch cable, clutch plates,he said may aswell do both whilst at it

I suppose without a manual theres no way i can doit and also suppose its not easy for someone on here to explain aswell

No matter how much i adjust the cable on both engine and bars the clutch slip is still very bad when riding so thats deffo clutch plates then?

you shouldnt need the manual to adjust the clutch cable. theres an adjuster on the engine end of the cable and also on the lever end.

adjust the lever end to provide the maximum slack then adjust at the engine end till the slack is taken up and your cable should be adjusted correctly. you might need a small amount of adjustment at the lever end to fine tune it.

i reckon your mechanic should have checked that though so its likely that you do need the clutch doing. i had to get the clutch done on my Pulsar quite early on...cost about £75 fitted i think.

i wouldnt recommend trying it yourself unless you have some confidence and decent tools. you will need a service manual for that. they cost £17ish from Masco on 01743 761 107 for your Kymco Thumbs Up

Changing clutch plates is a really easy job.

You should be able to do it without a manual if you've got a bit of mechanical know how.

the Kymco Strykers not a particularly common bike so i doubt anyone has pics of the work your doing.

the engine is very similar to the Honda CG engine for reference.
